Some guy hates anime fans

Troll of epic proportions. >_>

I found it amusing when he compared Spirited Away to Pixar movies, considering most Pixar movies are just ****** rescue movies, while Spirited Away is a generally decent movie with individualistic themes and far from Miyazaki's strongest, this guy needs to watch something by Satoshi Kon.

"These bizarre and rabid obsessives of Japanese animation are typically the social outcast Neo-Goth type; clad like a thrift-store reject from a Matrix convention" I am nothing like this at all; shut up.

"But if you’re in your 20s and have a DVD rack full of nothing but Studio Ghibli titles (and your secret Urotsukidoji stash at the back of the closet that nobody knows about of course)"

Oh no, he found me out, it's ironically the only hentai DVD I have in my collection. Although I'm seventeen.

Conclusion: Gtfo, watch stuff outside of common popularity.

I took a gander, and i'm thinking the exact same thing. Anime is not just aimed at kids, as much as he would like to think they are. i really don't like people like that, they just assume something without really giving it a decent look into.

Reading that I didn't feel offended for being a anime fan, at all. He is missing one of the a lot of the main concepts I enjoy about anime, I'm not even going to go into what it is we enjoy about it. Its kept us around long enough to discuss something. Also; There is definite social side to it It's a great topic of conversation with people both in person-to-person and online. Basically - The feeling I was getting from it was the fact that he basically a idiot who took his time to research just to bash it (I want him to argue with Trekkies, next), or he was a "closet" anime fan with inconsistency's placed in the article on purpose. It seemed the same as reading some 11 year old shouting at adults for watching cartoons.

...Gah, Why did I even bothered to write that. ;/

Also, That "Anonymous" comment was you, right? I felt your style of writing in it.

Problem is that this kind of thread is what he/she/it is probably after, rant bait to get people to his his/her/its site, get people arguing for either side and bump up the web counter by an order of magnitude.

Its strange the way he mentions Pixar and Ghibli because both studios actually respect each other quite a lot. Remember the hoping lamp post in Spirited Away?

I left a comment which, if the site doesn't delete it, sums up my thoughts. My only disappointment is that such a poor standard of journalism is acceptable for professional sites such as that...

Haha, just read the first paragraph, and can already tell he doesn't know what he's talking about:

"I’ve gleefully rushed out to buy Toy Story, Ratatouille and The Animatrix."

I haven't actually watched Animatrix, but aren't some of its stories considered anime, or at least anime-influenced?

This is due to ignorant people not realizing that anime is not just Pokemon and YuGiOh. There's a lot more to it.

If you're going to write an article, at least research the subject first.

Read 2 and 1/2 paragraphs, I WANT TO DECK HIM!!!!!!!!!

Just read some of the comments underneath the article, LMAO!!!

LMAO! "Give these poor kids some more He-Man and a little less Fruit Basket, please."
What the-?! Fruit's basket's nudity isn't porn or anything, it's just a gag they do. Apart from that, what the hell is wrong with it? Then we have He-man, which is ok in it's own right... But it's a macho guy, with nout on but pants, boots and a breastplate, swinging swords as much as any anime and such... What a load of crap...

As for the social stuff, sounds like he's more immature than the +20 year old singles... The only thing disproportionate around here is the man-whore's ego.

Some of the things he mentions actually made me laugh. It wouldn't surprise me if this was just some hoax article.

If it isn't a hoax, his lack of research disgusts me.

That's the funniest thing I have read this week.

Neo Goth types, social outcast... hah, I am proud of what I watch and I ain't going to let some moron like him changing my opinion.

Though he is right on one thing, we all embrace the Japanese culture, but we can never be part of (unless you live in Japan off course)

He must be talking about me. I have 7 x 5' long shelves filled with anime DVDs + piles on the floor, though the Urotsokodoji is on a shelf in the other room with my videos not in the back of the closet. I am a goth, the only bit he got wrong in his description is I am 30+ not 20+.

I'm a bit ashamed of rising to that pointless article but I did. Or at least I tried. I left this comment;

Stuart says:

Sean Connery said, "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight."

I say: I'm Annoyed by Film Fanatics that quote lines from movies.

And that's because, when they "get out of the house and meet some real, normal people..." they leave those real, normal people with the impression that they were the kind of person who spends too much time sitting in a darkened room memorising lines from movies.

I suspect it won't get past the mods as it's hardly a deep and intelligent response.

Damn it, I get so hacked off with how the internet allows for virtually anyone to say all sorts of inflammatory **** from the safety of their bedrooms/dinning rooms or wherever.

And for the record I'm not annoyed because I meet his common anime fan stereotype - because I don't. It's because he's written a pointless article that isn't even interesting, clever or insightful because he's only saying things that have been said by countless others a million times before.

I'm pretty riled so I'm gonna go try calm down a bit. And it's your fault Paul for posting the link!

Hey Paul, is that a pseudonym of yours? Or else, why post it here to increase the guy's hit count? :D

Anyway, fun article for one who doesn't know his stuff. Dragon ball trading cards, came very late in the series life, it was based in Chinese mythology and then the ultra-creative guy decided to put a bit of aliens here and there, another "gods" here and there...

Putting animatrix on his list ifs definitely a killer. Also, someone said it's a professional site, is it?
I never see those movie review sites... never found a trustworthy one and I prefer to have an opinion of my own.

BTW - goth people as anime fans???
I've met all kinds of anime fans and goth people would be one of the last "stereotype" I would classify as anime fans...

That article agitated me.

So I clicked on his name to find out who he is. He's the sites forum admin and "contributing writer". His profile is ranked last on the list of 33 members of staff. I counted 5 staff avatars related to computer games, 4 of which are Japanese in origin.

This is just a small man trying to make a name for himself. Im going to check out the forums next and see if anyone in there agrees with him or even cares that he wrote it.

Im almost tempted to suggest we invade the forum and just start creating post about upcoming (american) anime dvd releases and movies. If he truly feels the way he does it would be an interesting way to hit him back. But I'm fairly confident that he would love the attention more than anything else.

EDIT:- As I suspected its a deliberate act by the site to stir things up. It looks like it going to be an ongoing feature with different writers picking on different "fanboys" and then walking back to the forum for a pat on the back. All in good fun as far as they are concerned.
Im going to lurk for a while and see if it goes anywhere but ive got a feeling cinema blend wont be a site ill be returning to for my entertainment news and community kicks
