New to the forum, so please move this if its in the wrong area. Also just done a search and didnt find a similar thread.

So... Do you watch anime, with dubbed voices? Or with subtitles with the voices in the original language.

I myself much prefer subtitles. Listening to people in english just doesnt seem right.

The japanese voice actors just seem to have an edge which leave the dubbed ones feeling cold.

Anyway just my opinion. Which do you prefer?

It's entirely dependant on the style of the show, and, obviously, the quality of the voice acting. There are very few that pull both subs and dubs off well though. Full Metal Panic! and Chobits spring to mind.

However, I usually go with subs.

Obviously Subs are better, I tend to actually like to called it ANIME when i am watching it Subtitled, When it is dubbed i am no doubt watching it on TV and therefore it has been edited to nothing and pure crap.

But certain voice actors can do a better job, You very very rarely see a WHOLE show that voice acting was good, but i re-state, a few voice actors are actually Good?!?!

Half and Half, Depends on the show for me. I couldn't imagine series like Kanon or Haruhi being done well by an American dub cast, but shows like Cowboy Bebop, Tenchi Muyo! etc i couldn't watch in anything but the dub.

It really depends on the anime and the quality of the dub.

Shows like One Piece, Escaflowne, Death Note, Bleach, etc, I mainly prefer the japanese sub.

But shows like Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Panic, Fullmetal Alchemist, Wolf's Rain, etc have produced brilliant english dub performances.

Hmm interesting, the numbers aren't as diverse as i though, though 8 votes is hardly a significant proportion of the anime watching public.

Having tried to watch Hellsing in english, i had to turn it to japanese as the voice acting was so hammy i simply couldnt take it seriously!

Same with Witch hunter robin, sadly my Ghost in the Shell (original film) is in english only... sigh... But its reasonably done.

Oddly Princess Mononoke which does have serious actors doing the voices, is also rather anemic against the supurb japanese voice acting.

Dub On a lot of things, I kind of get used to the English Voices, When it comes to Things like Cowboy Bebop, GITS, Akira & FMA I just think the Dub Voices or Fantastic

Sub on shows that aren't released here yet like Blood+, Reborn, One Piece Movies, etc.

Although its usually subs for me there are undoubtadly some equally great dubs out there(which I wont mention for fear of losing an arm).

(Welcome return of this perennial old chestnut)

I'm quite happy with either and prefer to have the choice between dub and subs available (something which has become possible with DVDs). However, if I were forced to choose between one or the other it would have to be dub. It is easier. Normally, when it comes to live-action foreign language films or series I would always go for subtitles but with animation it is different. Probably because animation is always dubbed even if it is the original language.

Ironically, the dub is probably better if sub-titles are available than if the dub is the only option.

Ages ago, I used to prefer the Dub to the subs because I used to think I won't enjoy The anime in its foreign language.

But this site called Anime Uk news has spread a Disease called the Fansubber Disease and now, I love the Japanese w/english subs and now starting to pick up a few Jap Words.

I SO HATE YOU, ANIMEUKNEWS XD

Just so you know, there's no vaccination.

Give me Subbed anyday, I love the original voice, they sound so cool, alot of the time I find the UK voice just don't match - look at Steam Boys dub - that was aweful.

Plus I love hearing Japanese voice saying english words, it just sounds so cool
