Schedule Update: 4 BEEZ DVD's & 1 Optimum Blu-Ray!

Only one Ghibli title on BD this time? I would have thought the "two at a time" releasing strategy would have worked well. I mean I'd rather they released them all at once, preferably in some kind of set minus the duplicate DVDs I already own, but I'll take what I can get. And if I can get Whisper in HD, I will most certainly be taking that.

I would guess that they would release them quicker but have to wait for the release of the Japanese Blu-rays. Maybe Whisper is the only other Ghibli blu scheduled there at the mo. We seem to be getting them not too long after Japan ( and some time before the US), so hopefully we'll have dates for the rest before too long.

This is one of the few Ghibli films I haven't seen yet, so watching in in shiny HD as my first viewing is a bit of a bonus!

Whisper is my favourite Ghibli film, but before I buy the Blu-ray I want to see if Madman/Optimum plan to continue with their mission to digitally scrub every last bit of grain from every Ghibli movie they touch. Plus, inevitable packaging fail, etc.

It can be because image detail is sometimes lost in the process. But it's also a matter of personal preference; I like grain and I want the transfers as close to the Miyazaki-approved Japanese BDs as possible.

Not that the UK BDs look bad. Despite the obvious lack of grain I was reasonably happy with them, but then I saw how the films should look and have become increasingly frustrated with Madman/Optimum's obsession with applying DNR.

Is scrubbing the grain a bad thing?

To highlight the problem DNR can cause look at the below screen shots from Japanese and Optimum Blu-Ray release of Laputa. You can clearly see less detail on the ground in Optimum version compared to the Japanese release.

As fabricatedlunatic said, it comes down to personal preference. But with a lot of TV equipment giving you option to do you own DNR. It would be nice have a choice of using DNR instead of been forced to have it.

But still I will certainly be getting the Optimum Studio Ghibi Blu-Ray at some point. As they are still massive jumps in quality compared to the DVD versions and they will probably be cheaper to get than importing.

A few minor questions I have connected to the 00 news:

1. With Season One announced, any idea how long before we get a Season Two set? I know the singles for those have only recently ended but I suppose it's the obvious question.

2. Any chance of Beez releasing the 00 Special Editions? BEI oddly skipped these and we have sometimes seen European releases for stuff they've skipped before, like the SEED epilogue OVA and the 0083 movie.

3. I may have missed an announcement but with season 2 now available, any word on when the movie will be out?

I suspect not until after Code Geass R2 anime legends is released. With CG, the went: CG singles, CG r2 singles, CG AL and then I suspect CGr2 AL will follow in a while, looks like the same release pattern with G00.

House Of Five Leaves is a automatic buy for me, since it was announced last year, it been my most anticipated release of this year. I already have the three volumes of the manga ^_^

The Tatami Galaxy is also on my "I must purchase" list.

I suppose news of the Gundam )) box means I need to pull my finger out and get a complete series review written.

For now, I'll simply say that it' one of the most entertaining shows I've encountered in the franchise, and the option to pick up the complete first series in one nice sized chunk should be irresistable.

Yay for Gundam. No way was I gonna pay the original prices for the individual releases, so I'm glad an AL release has appeared.

Just waiting for some of the ancient series to come out now...can't be bothered importing. >_>

Man I loved Gundam double-endbracket too. First foray into gundam but I really enjoyed it.

The crazy thing with Gundam is, I MEANT Gundam 00. But we never know! If we can geta Gundam with an upside-down letter A in the title, why not ))?

Hell, why not Gundam >>, Gundam ~ and - my personal favourite, and one that's SURE to do well for Bandai - Gundam $$!
