What's Robotech like in comparison to the three series' it's bastardised from? I have those on R1 DVD but still need to watch Southern Cross and Mospeada.

And are we ever getting any more Macross in the West or do we have to keep shaking our fists at Harmony Gold?

Aren't AETN the same group that own The History Channel and the Bio channel over here?!?

It's god awful compared to what it butchers, but the later series are less so.

It's not just Harmony Gold who are why Macross is unlicenesable. Tatsunoko, Studio Nue and Big West's fight over who owns the Japanese rights in the first place isn't exactly prety (but mostly concerns only SDF not the sequels). Then there's the music rights, which I assume are the main problem, they push the value of the licence so high no one can touch it.

I bought the Macross saga set from manga a few years ago. Gave up after a few episodes when a girl decided to run back into a rapidly developing warzone because she'd left her diary there and "someone could read it".

I've eyed up the Robotech boxes in sales before, but they were split up confusingly and I don't think I ever saw a store with a complete set of them.

I actually think Robotech is quite good fun for all the 'waitaminute!' moments in it.

I mean, I'd never pretend that I thought it was great entertainment. But there are moments that are rather amusing for all the wrong reasons.

Like the episode where a lovesick Rick Hunter is mooning over Minmei (at a point in the show where clearly any sane man would turn around, mutter 'screw YOU then, you manipulative, childish little cowbag!') has an equally lovesick Lisa Hayes CLEANING UP AFTER HIM AND DOING HIS DISHES IN HIS OWN HOME!

That's good, old fashioned, family mysogyny right there. ^^

Really, show girl and the fighter pilot? You knew it would never work out anyway, and Lisa was older than him so she should have known better, but meh.

Ayup. That's EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

The more you think about that particular love triangle, the more icksome it becomes.

Fandom Post is reporting that Go Entertain is releasing this in November, and they also say that it looks as if it will be the same as the US A & E rerelease in October.

That's a whole heap of extra features and physical extras that we never got with the Manga releases.

Personally I doubt this... I think it will be the Manga discs repackaged. I don't see them going to the expense of PAL converting the extras, and rating them at the BBFC, for a re-release of a decades old title that most people who would have been interested in, would already have bought.

But I'm wrong more often than I'd like about these things.
