Recommend me a anime that i must see before i die?

So I'm about to die and God comes before me and says "You can watch one anime before you die." Why would you choose a movie based around the world getting ****** over by an angsty 15 year old and every human turns to semen? Srsly, wut?

Yup! If I only had two hours left in which I could only watch anime, I'd choose EoE, because it would such a perfect way to experience being human for the last time; all the base emotions you feel, all the extraordinary sights you see, all the amazing music you hear. Certainly, EoE would be a fine choice; plus, it ends on a note of hope, too! ^__^

I'm surprised how feeble most of these lists are:
Unlike you, we only gave essential anime. Stop being elitist, tube.

Alright, I'll go grab my commoner clothes and join you in being unopinionated and impassionate @_@

You might consider it elitist, but I don't think this is entirely a question of opinion, so I reject many of the lists given for different reasons, and it's no different to you turning your nose up at me for disagreeing with them. I'm trying to be critical, and there isn't much point in providing lists of anime you must see - obviously critical weighings of all anime (as far as the individual is able) - unless they have some reason or wisdom behind them.

And of course, the reason I gave a list of recommended anime, as well as essential ones, was because there are so many worthy of mention, or that are only essential in different circumstances, such as if you were wanting to understand anime, or see its classics. There's no harm in me giving slightly more than what was asked for - I was only working through my thoughts and feelings.
I don't care what you listed. That opening statement was a snide remark, and I sure as hell am not taking it. You want to list a lot? Fine. Just don't comment on the amount people suggest.

If God comes before you, You'd already be dead.

Watch Gurren Lagann and you'll be so pumped up you'll deny death :D

Though if there was anime I just had to watch before I died it would probably be:

Cowboy Bebop
Gurren Lagann
Eureka Seven
Fullmetal Alchemist
Hellsing Ultimate

Then I'll just say I'm sorry, though I didn't mean any offence or harm.

My opening remark wasn't meant to be snide, but I have to disagree that you can just 'not take it'. You can tell me that I'm wrong, you can make me the bad guy, and you can develop a mental caricature of me by stereotyping and exaggerating everything I say in terms of your first impressions, but you can't just 'not take it'. I could have easily filled a page telling you about Internet, libertarian and Postmodern culture, where I think you exhibit their qualities and why I disagree with them (I almost did), but as far as 'not taking it' goes, I offered a very slightly negatively skewed comment at the start, meaning no offence or harm, but being critical. If you, like many people, think that because we live in a libertarian culture, you and others are beyond criticism, then you're wrong, and you should be happy that my criticism was benign, and in the interests of rousing people to a better evaluation of anime and its classics.

Essentially, I'm happy to have a debate, but I'm not going to have an argument, because I don't bear any ill-will to you or anyone else on the forum, so again, I'm sorry, and I hope you don't take this the wrong way.

-The Third: the girl with the blue eye (i've heard this is good)

Much of Ginax's original work like
-Neon Evengoilen
-FLCL

Kyoto productions
-Air
-Kanon
-Haruhi (though it's been said)

Production IG
-GITS (FTW!!!)

Madhouse
-Chobits (legendary!)

JC Staff
-Love Hina
-Azumanga Dioah

others
-Sasuka
-Tsubasa
-School rumble
-Fruits basket

These animations that I put are purely biased, and not all considreably classic. though reading one of the review sites might help, I personally, prefer not to heed critics

The anime I reccomend that everyone should see before they die is, of course, End of Evangelion. It's the most powerful movie I've ever seen!

It's a great and thought provoking film, but I reckon I'd want something a little lighter in the event of my demise. Evangelion leaves me depressed tbh

I think we should change End of Evangelion to "That epic fight with Asuka." Since everyone should just see that.

Evangelion left me depressed the first time I watched it, but once the sheer poignancy of it all wears off with subsequent viewings, the depression is replaced with utter amazement! :]

Have to get back to you on that one once I've rewatched it a few more times , at the moment I'm still finding it to be a heavy experience. Anyway, this is in danger of becoming an Eva thread, so i'll shut up.

Yeah, that's easily one of (if not the) best fights in anime ever! But, that wasn't even the best part of EoE for me! (The end of the world was totally amazing; that's the best part!)

You haven't finished the series yet?

Again, this is not about the actual anime listed.

I don't believe my favourites are above criticism either. Go ahead and ask me the flaws in them and I'll tell you what they are. I don't understand how you thought I was a libertarian from what I said. Your comment wasn't to my liking. If you didn't mean any offense, then fine.

I reckon Akira is definitely among the anime that should be seen before you die. Tekkonkinkreet, Ghost in the Shell, Paprika (even if only for the awesome music!), Tokyo Godfathers and Macross Plus are all up there, too!
