Sound of the Sky Episode 7.5 (OVA
When I first watched this series, I watched it on crunchyroll so I couldn't see this episode. Now I have (on my laptop; but I'll definitely try and watch it upscaled tonight...wish I could do the same with disc 1 *grumbles*).

Anyways, every series, no matter how serious, needs a dose of silly. This is Sound of the Sky's dose...and I'm guessing that this is a stat-dose, or perhaps even an overdose, because I could not stop laughing.

As those who have watched the series will know, the platoon makes some money from an illegal distillery in their basement, and this episode is about Kanata discovering it. I love how they gave a good excuse for the over-the-top nature here; with Filicia spiking everyone's tea with alcohol. Got a religious objection to alcohol - here's a spiked tea! Felicia has always been that girl who looks like a moe stereotype at first, but deep down...In fact, Noël also goes completely against her originally perceived character type in this episode.

Words cannot describe how 'into' the mock battle the cast did (most likely influenced by their spiked teas earlier xD). Rio and Felicia's exchange was probably one of the more hilarious (Rio x Felicia anyone? =3), and then there's Noël, who went all out with a dyed-water-gatling gun, cackling evilly as she fired (Witch of Helvetia anyone?). The final showdown between Kanata and Rio was beyond hilarious as well - I loved how when Kureha tried to y'know, say how ridiculous this is, she was shut down.

What I loved was all this melodrama, over shooting water at each other, talking about others being sacrificed etc; and the little drip of tea at the corner of the mouths of those who were shot, taking the mick out of how anime characters always seem to have internal bleeding before they die.

I do have to feel sorry for Kureha; being unable to get drunk, having to endure all this sober...then to have everyone gather and strip her xD. It was nice to see Kureha as the "Straight man" for once!

Not even the owl was spared from the drunken antics. Seeing a drunken Yumina try to lecture poor Shuko about God was beyond awesome.

My only complaint about it, is because it's too damn wacky (Not a bad thing), I just can't see it doing very well when placed within the series. However, as a standalone episode, it's pretty darn awesome.

popotan - this is about 3 sisters who travel though time ( reasons why ............. i dont know it doesn't even tell you how they got in that house, why there travelling, reasons for travelling, theres are so many unaswered things.
but you know how they give messages in anime like -
family is important
friends are important
helping out people out
ect ect ect (well there are animes that do give messages like that )
this one was about no matter how far you are from the people you love you'll always be together.
this anime was funny, fan service, cute at times.
il give it a 8.5/10

Pom Poko

I liked the film, although there are a few questions. Such as how come a film which features tanuki/Japanese raccoon dogs who can transform the testicles into things, including using them to crush humans to death, can still be rated as a PG?

Score: 8 / 10

Because in the English dub, they are 'Raccoon Pouches'

Which is misleading because raccoons don't have pouches. Nore are they strictly speaking raccoons.

Wait, say whaaat!??

I've haven't seen Pom Poko yet, but I think I need to watch it soon now. I always thought Pom Poko was a kid friendly allegory on the situation in Japan at the time, I had no idea it included man crushing raccoon testicles!

Although how in the world did Mononoke get a PG! It features a man being beheaded with an arrow, and another man having both his arms dismembered in a scene that is both gory and comical, and plenty more! Its a 12 at the very least surley?

It appears later in the film. One of the "raccoons", Gonta, advocates killing humans who are responsible for destorying the land. He and his followers later use their shapeshifted giantic testicles to crush some policeman. You can clearly see the testicles throughout the film. There is also a moment you see two children reading a porn mag, who are later scared off by two raccoons transformed as demons.

season 5 of naruto the hole retrieval of sasuke, the sound ninja, return of the sand ninja, Kimimaro (he kicks ass) and the last 2 episode of season 2s getting good, i always look farwed to the naruto vs sasuke fight, 9/10

 , this sounds nothing like how I imagined it!

Also it seems to me that Ghibli films are almost untouchable by rating boards, how else would this and especially Mononoke Hime come out woth only a PG. I can't think of any other examples of films that get away with it. Not that I'm complaining of course, I think every living being on the planet deserves to be able to watch Mononoke Hime

Sounds like a load of balls to me.

LOL SEE WOT I DID THAR

I've not seen Pom Poko but I starting to think that I should get around to it. Authority figures getting taken out by raccoons' giant gonads? This I must see.

If that hasn't been used as a euphemism yet, it is now.

I've just been to the doctors to check out my raccoon pouches. ^_^

Anyway, another film I've just watched - Origin: Sprirts of the Past. To be honest, I wasn't impressed. It had its moments, but on the whole it was rather underwhelming. Plus some of the 3-D animation was a bit ropy.

Score: 3 / 10

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Just finished watching my BD of volume 5, and what can I say. This has been an exceptional ride. Just an all round brilliant show with a mesmerising story, great characters, a memorable score and barely any drop in the quality of episodes through it's 64 episode run.

Perhaps the thing that has stuck with me the most though was the ability to create characters so bad but yet at the same time you cannot help but feel so much sympathy for them.

Possibly the best anime I have ever watched, and one that I look forward to sitting down and rewatching for years to come.

10/10
