Wow. Everyone needs to watch this show. I haven't seen any series this good since Lain in 2007. I would seriously put this up there with shows like Now and then, Lain and Paranoia Agent.
I'm not interested in Magical Girl shows and I don't think I've ever watched one start to finish and yet this still effected me so much. I'm really convinced by this that any genre can produce compelling stories with substance if there's enough thought invested.
A lot of people have compared this to Bokurano and I understand why but I'd say it's actually a lot better than Bokurano. Bokurano had very little character development due to the plot and a lot of the subplots and backstory were pointless and uninteresting. Madoka doesn't have a single wasted episode and each one had you wanting to move onto the next straight away.
Another problem with Bokurano was I found the characters emotional interaction very unconvincing. A lot of anime have the problem of characters having unrealistic emotional reactions (usually in terms of being overdramatic). Madoka looks like the type of show that should suffer from that problem especially, but it doesn't. There's so much emotion and it's all completely believable and appropriate.
Also the soundtrack is fantastic and I loved that End of Eva homage in the last episode.
Again, everyone should watch this.
