Prince of Tennis Discussion (Anime)

I've been watching this, and i'm hooked. I seriously love this show. Anyone else watching/seen it? Is there any chance of me discussing this show with someone, or will this thread just die straight away?

If we're using spoilers, as always, can we refer to what episode we're spoiling, especially on something like Prince of Tennis where it is 180 episodes + OVA/Movies/Specials

Was it that video of Tezuka wiping out the dinosaurs that inspired further viewing?

 It was! I saw that and since it was the only thing on my mind, and I just had to go and start watching it. i can't wait to see Tezuka playing. I still know nothing about his 'bad arm' or something. (I think his MAL profile was spoilering me, so I clicked off it before I read too much)

Are there lots of epic bankai-esque sequences in the series? I'd love to see some. Vipers a badass too. Bandana's are always cool.

//Edit// I must thank you by the way for showing me that video, and leading me on to this awesome show! :D !

There are some pretty bizarre things to come--complete with some pretty funny and complex names to go along with them--but I wouldn't say anything comes quite as close as that sequence from Tezuka!

If you're enjoying the series at the minute, then you'll probably grow to love it more--though I'm speaking as one who has only really read the manga, experiencing the anime a little less frequently.

Edit: No problem! I'm just glad you're enjoying it!

Yeah that sequence brought epic to a new level! The only 2 things that annoy me are

1) The girls who are Echizens fangirls. And how everytime they'll go "THE TWIIIIIST SERVE" as if its the first time they've seen it

2) The kid who reminds me us all the time he has 2 years teenis experience, and the most annoying voice ever.

However, I think I will love this :D I cant wait to watch more. I can see my playing alot of tennis this summer xD

Also; I like you alot, do you have MAL so I chat to you outside the forums? If you do add me, my page is linked in my profile :)

I recall posting a picture of Tezuka on 4chan, and everyone calling it gay because of the bishonen characters. Put the nail in the coffin for me, thank you.

I dropped this when Viz flaked out and stopped releasing it (note to self: never buy anything from Viz ever again until it's finished). I enjoyed it though it was never a prime series for me, just silly entertainment I'd put in when I wanted some awesome shounen tennis shenanigans. It would be nice if they'd stop being idiots and release more of it...

I don't care enough about it to import elsewhere or go to great lengths, which is unfortunate :(

I like Fuji most from what I saw.

Fuji is pretty cool. But Kaidoh and Tezuka are easily my favorites.

do you have MAL?

I'm afraid I don't have one at the minute; I really should get round to setting one up, though.

My favourite characters are Fuji and Inui, I think--though there are some strong contenders as the series progresses. I'm in the same boat as Rui, though--Viz haven't allowed me to watch much of the anime past episode 50, or so. The manga's been released pretty consistently, mind.

Ah, i'm watching subs, so it's easier ;)

And yeah, set up MAL or if you have msn, I can PM you my address!

Fuji and Inui are cool, but as the series is progressing im LOVING Tezuka, Kaidoh and Eiji.

I can't stop watching this show. The last time I was this hooked to a show was Bleach/Death Note.

i don't know

what makes this more appealing compared to any other sports based manga

I wouldn't know as this is my first "Proper" sports anime. I did used to watch Beyblade as a kid though...

Just watch a few episodes and find out.

Does anyone know where the movie fits in?

I downloaded it but, i'm not sure when i'm supposed to see it.

usually after the series is the best bet, then if it was set earlier then at least nothing spoiled.

if not look for it's production year

I'll probably just wait till after the series.

yeah i forgot to mention to check it against the years the series was aired :p

but you get what i mean

Yeah I know but, i'm just happy to finish the series first.

Damn this discussion thread is dead, and for what is one of my new favorite anime =/

Does anyone know where the OVA "A Day on Survival Mountain" fits into the timeline?

See, Tezuka is in it, which where I am currently in the anime means it would be before he flies off to Germany, however, he will inevitably return, and since it aired in 2003, i've no idea if i'm at the right point yet.

Maybe its one of those things where it doesn't have a definite place in the timeline and it's out of contunity, like most of the DBZ movies
