*sigh* I don't like UP1 and nor do I like RightStuf's security checks.

I know i cant believe it, when i recieved a email telling me that they were refunding my money for Gundam 00 collection 2, i just assumed it was because they couldnt get it.
I didnt expect to find out they were closing.

Ive ended up writing down my current wish list.

So who do people recommend for importing from?
And when do you start paying import tax on items?

PlanetAxel is no more

Well that sucks. I just recently started using them more often.

Received e-mails this morning saying that my preorder for FMA:Brotherhood hd been cancelled and refunded, which I thought strange. So I went on their home page to find a message about how they have been named bankrupt, which absolutely sucks for them, and sucks for anyone who imports from them.

Hopefully, refunds will go through with no problems, we shall see...

I must say, I really liked how there was never any suprise import duties from them or anything, even if they were sometimes a tad pricey. Back to Amazon and Rightstuf I suppose.

i know i had about 120 pounds worth now im refunded -_- im relieved that im getting refunded but the next thing is to find a new website thats just like axel planet
which online store would you suggest

There's no perfect replacement. I zoomed to Rightstuf to catch the final hours of the Sentai sale to take care of that (and some additional stuff), and everything else will be placed at a mixture of other stores. Fortunately I didn't have much outstanding as I had wound down my preorders to avoid things arriving when I'm off travelling this summer (not an issue with Rightstuf as it will take ages to arrive anyway).

*takes a deep breath*
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

This really, really, really sucks. So my K-ON! Season 2 Part 1 will be my last ever order from them *sniff*.

This...really, really sucks. They really were the best in the market in regards to imports (particularly in terms of price).

It's a shame, it really is. Guess UP1 will become my new best friend now.

They have closed their Twitter account and their customer service e-mail addresses (and probably, their Paypal account itself) so I'd stay on top of this, all who are affected :/

question about UP1

it has more stuff then axel planet so. why dont we use it often?

is it cause there not as cheap as axel planet or something else

UP1 are great, I use them. There's no reason not to. I just liked Axel's unrealistically good pricing and checkout.

The only downsides are:

1. I'm stupid and can't remember my login and their website doesn't let you retrieve it easily (this is not important if you are smarter than me).
2. You have to pay postage.
3. They aren't as cheap.

On the positive side:

1. They're local and attend events, so it's easy to contact them and you can even pick items up from their stands at events to save on postage.
2. They can get pretty much anything, even R4 imports and NISA/Aniplex titles. They sell some UK stuff too.
3. They're genuinely nice blokes and because they specialise in and love anime, you get proper answers to questions if you ask instead of the general answers other shops give.
4. You can also buy figures/manga at the same time if you want, in one glorious order.
5. As they ship inside the UK, things arrive quickly once they are sent and never attract any unexpected fees.

It's not a lot, it's just that it gets a little complicated to work out because they try to price it close to their actual costs instead of fleecing the buyer with a flat fee like a lot of online stores. I'd prefer it if they included it in the item price since they have this system, but I guess then people would avoid them as they'd look more expensive.

For whatever reason UP don't offer much of a discount on Sentai releases, meaning Planet Axel were around £10 cheaper for their Blu-ray sets. That's going to hurt more than anything else since the difference isn't so pronounced with stuff from Funimation and other distributors.

Sometimes I rationalise the extra cost from UP or Otaku as a sort of "express delivery" fee, as most of the time orders turn up the following day, which is nice and reminds me of back when I used to buy from shops - instant gratification! The customer service is also excellent, and with a UK-based company it's a lot less hassle to sort things out if something goes wrong.
