Persona 4

I wish I was able to play it for as long as you, RR - I need a break every few hours! You have some willpower if you were able to keep playing it for so long, even if bosses proved difficult or concern over social links/stats got to you.

The scary thing about Persona playtime is that the time you spend getting killed by bosses, or dying whilst going up floors, isn't counted. Neither is the time spent trying to get the skills on a person you want counted when you turn the game off out of anger.

I've yet to play it again since I last posted. I played it for like 6 hours straight at first, getting through the lengthy intro, and then I struggled to keep playing it for long periods. Twilight Princess has been getting more play time because, if nothing else, at least that's simple and doesn't cause me mental pain. :D

I'm going to try to get over the 15 hour mark later on. If I leave it for another few days then I'll need to restart it just to get back into it. Here's hoping I don't have issues with the gay guys dungeon...

I have a question relating to the bonus boss of the first dungeon: How tough is he? I'm level 17, with my highest persona being a level 18 Jack Frost. Should I have a go at the bonus boss on my first night at the second dungeon, where I intend to make it to the midboss, or leave it until the second night?

It's quite tough thanks to one particular move. If you have the spell that reduces the enemy's attack, you should be fine. Otherwise, it's difficult to say. I'd leave it until your second visit just to be sure.

Aye, rampage. I've never been one to use physical skills - I've always gone with magic using personas since it's rare an enemy is weak to physical attacks - so he'll probably rape me. In order to survive, a persona with strong physical defence is probably going to be needed...

I do have rakunda, but how useful it'll be I don't know. And using it constantly will suck up my SP like a mother ******. At least I have 15-20 sodas stored...

I've used physical attacks a lot more in Persona 4 because of the limited SP. They're especially useful when used in conjunction with Power Charge, when your SP is running low, and when enemies have no elemental weakness.

There is another way to replenish SP while in the TV world, though you may not have been introduced to it yet. And it's something of an understatement to say that it's not cheap.

I was doing well in the bathhouse dungeon - up to floor 4, having got 3 pieces of armour from locked chests and gotten a lot of money because of arcana cards. Then, at complete random, a robotic fish type monster summoned another monster called phantom master, and the phantom master killed my MC with an attack called ghastly wail. Because of that, I just lost 30-60 minutes, when I was actually enjoying the game.

God, I hate this game...

Did anyone get the free shirt from Play? Seriously, how COOL is it?

Kinda big for me, but whatever.

Yeah its a perfect fit for me, I love the "You Are Not Me!" slogan on the front of mine and i'm very impressed with the soundtrack, I'll never get tired of the battle theme.

I love the full version of that song, i'm still convinced you could get a good anime out of the game like. One thing i never realised about the t shirt though was that it was bright yellow :p

I'm further in now, over the 20 hour mark. I became really addicted last night, beating the second dungeon and then going back to beat the dungein again in order to fight the bonus boss. It was cake the second time around - the bonus boss of that dungeon was a pussy cat.

The camping trip was amusing. It would've been funnier if it had been shown what happened to Kanji when he stormed into the girls tent but I'm not complaining. I'm already starting to tire of the story, which hasn't really advanced at all since the start aside from more characters becoming involved, but the comedy sequences are keeping it enjoyable.

I don't think the social link scenes have been great this time around - most are boring, telling me nothing about the characters I don't already know. Take Yukiko's scenes for example - all that's occurred in the first 7 is talk about her learning to cook...boring. It doesn't seem like much effort was put in. I like some, the drama club slink being a favourite, but most just don't interest me.

I have a slink related question: When/how do you pick which character you want to be your girlfriend in P4? I read you actually get to select this time around. But I also read you need pretty much max stats to do it...yet, after 7 dates with Yukiko, I haven't needed higher stats than I currently have...

Right now all my stats are level 3 besides diligence. Courage and Knowledge shouldn't be too far from level 4. I'm happy with my stats but it's a problem that my stats aren't high enough for the 5th and 6th jobs. I suppose it doesn't really matter when the daycare job is still only at rank 1 - I need to spend some time ranking up that slink once I get some school slinks to 10. The same goes for the fox slink.

One last question: Did everyone else go on the net to figure out how to fuse certain personas for Margaret? Like with P3, I kinda feel like I'm cheating but the fusion system is just too complex for me to understand.

I'm only 8-9 hours in really, Yukiko's dungeon was dealt with easily and with 7 days to spare. I'm level 19 with all characters apart from Chie who is dragging behidn slightly, i'm still yet to find many of the other social links apart from the two after school clubs. At the moment i'm just waiting around getting other stats up while waiting for the next quest to appear. Although once i'm level 20 i'm taking on that 1st extra boss

That ****** hits hard. Ye be warned.

The first time I fought him I was level 17. He killed me with one rampage. The second time I was 22+. He was fine at first, not using rampage, but when he used it near the end of the fight he took out two of my party members. I think I ended it with just the MC standing...

The second story boss was probably more difficult, though. Mainly because there was three enemies and they took ages to kill, as well as a fair amount of SP. After that fight, I see what Fabio was geting at when he said boss fights in P4 are more about grinding away hit points than using certain skills to expose weaknesses.

I've heard that he is a heavy hitter. I agree with the hp grinding, in the past most of the bosses had at least one thing they were weak against to make the battles go easier.

Damn. I'm addicted to yet another Persona game.

Rescued Kanji last night. Damn that boss was hard. I'm pretty sure that was harder than the earlier bosses in P3. I was at level 25 and still struggled.

You're playing on easy and still found it hard? I feel better about my early struggle now. :p

I'm up to the 8th floor of the 3rd dungeon. It's pretty easy, and the midboss was the easiest proper boss yet, but I still died once on the 4th floor. I relaxed, got ambushed, had exhaustion (half stats) cast on the MC and he was killed in one attack. From a stroll to game over - that's how easy it is to die.

The bad thing about the dungeon is its size. Each floor is fairly large and, since I hate avoiding enemies and losing out on experience, shuffle cards and items, I fight most. I used nearly all my SP. In order to beat the dungeon in one day, I'm going to use the invigorate trick to get the MCs SP ack up and have a go at the boss.

But first, I want to level up some of my lower level persona in order to get more skills from fusing. That's a pain in the arse because on the floor below the top floor in the 2nd dungeon there's a bettle with mamudo. -_-

yes this is something i must get, though due to so many other things, i've been still caught up with odin sphere.

must complete one before the other :3

Well, let's just say this is only my second JRPG. Besides, Megaten games are generally hard I've heard. >_>

I recently ordered DDS so that should be more fun (and when I say fun, I mean self punishment) to add to my Megaten collection.

Tell me about it. I've reached what seems to be the final dungeon, and I was on cruise control. A flashing shadow was prowling around just in front of a chest, so I decided to throw caution to the wind and take it on. It went down easy and I felt untouchable. But then I opened the chest and was suprised by another bunch of shadows who, before I could even do anything, Garudyned my MC's wind-weak Persona into dust. About half an hour down the drain right there.

The lesson is that you can never, ever get complacent with Shin Megami Tensei games.

I used nearly all my SP.
Have you not met the Hermit social link yet? There's really no easy solution to the SP issue, and therefore trying to clear the dungeon in just one day is a tough ask if you don't have an abundance of spare cash.

Hah that is very true , i was watching my friend play Lucifer's Call and he had been training for 2 hours almost (he had been to heal but neglected to save) and then he went up against a couple of arcangels who proceeded to kill off his MC with one hama. To say he wasn't happy was an understatment, i had to act fast to save my PS2...

I wouldn't rely on the fox, ever. Paying cash just to restore SP isn't helpful at all since it just sets you back from buying HP restoring items and better equipment. It's far better to just use the dungeon escape items and come back the next day.

I'm getting revenge by having my High Pixie use Mahama when there's multiple enemies. One time I actually managed to take out 3 enemies in one go.

That was my approach early on, but it's become apparent that I'm running out of time to max out my most important social links. In some cases it's already too late. At this point, every day is precious.

I save cash by not buying many healing items or the best equipment. You can find decent gear in dungeons and the more magic-oriented characters have such low strength that extra 50 or 100 attack doesn't make much difference. Similarly, the high endurance of more physically strong characters means it's not necessary equip them with the very best armour. And it's not all about stats: though Yukiko's current weapon has low power, it has high odds of inflicting confuse, which I find far more useful. I've not had to buy her a weapon for absolutely ages.

Recalling Personas from the compendium... now that's where I sink most of my cash. Fusing those high-level Personas is obscenely expensive.
