pen pal

Weren't they called Pen-Pals because you used to write with PEN to each other. would it be easier to have a e-pal, so you can just send emails and like IM each other.

Conventionally, yes. The term still stands though.

Having a pen-pal would be nice. Having a Japanese one would be cool but if I ever wanted to meet up it would take me ages to get over there. Having an American one would be easier.

In Standard Grade French my class was forced into sending letters to French kids. I did it once. On the inevitable trip across we stayed with the kids we wrote to. When they came here, I got some random kid that just sat and played my N64 all day.

There are two japanese who I frequently talk to via MSN and email, however one of them has virtually no English under her belt, meaning communication is sometimes limited.

Japanese people I find are very easy to talk to; there's no stereotyping or crap that you might get from talking to a western person.

Of course I can't speak for everyone, as I don't live, nor have ever been to Japan.
