Nominations for Worst Anime Fanbase

There is no doubt about what the anime writers were hinting at during the foot drying scene.
Uhm, that was obvious to me at least that that was a biblical reference of how Jesus washed Judas' feet. That theory also ties in with the betrayal. Nothing homo-erotic about that. Unless you want some angry religious nuts sending you strongly worded emails. :p

Of course, I was aware of the biblical context, but there is also a clear homo-erotic undertone to the whole thing. If you're denying it I would suggest you're either being naive, or just missing it. A lot of anime has content like this; I've already mentioned Get Backers, but Wolf's Rain is another that's rife with homo-eroticism, as well as Haku from Naruto. In these cases, it's clearly suggested by the writers.

Girls who obssess over anime characters annoy me.
Mainly because I used to be one of them ><

It just annoys me when girls get all gushy over drawings, I mean, I can appreciate when an anime character looks attractive, but when girls say stuff like

'Ohhhhh I LOVE HIM SO MUCH HE'S SO CUTE, WE'RE GONNA GET MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!'

And if you don't agree with it, you get an earful of 'JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T AGREE WITH IT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S STUUUUPPPPIIIIDDD!!''

Like I said, I used to be one of them, then I realised how stupid I sounded.
Yeah, that really gets on my nerves.

I'm not totally denying it that people would see it as that. Of course people are going to see something but I think given the itelligence of the series so far I think the writers probably intended that to be primarily a biblical reference highlighting the betrayal and not for the service. The fan girls getting wet over it is just an unfortunate side effect of being a 13 year old girl.

I don't think it has anything to do with "intelligence", rather I think it's clever that the writers are capable of weaving certain amounts of sub-text into the characterization, from biblical to homo-eroticism in just one scene. My point is that when it comes to the Death Note anime (this specific scene is original to the anime, according to a few anime blogs I read), the fans are quite entitled to read into certain relationships given what the sub-text is hinting at. I wouldn't say it has a "primarily" biblical context at all, especially given the "you're being rough" dialogue and the fact that Christianity is obscure in Japan - rather the whole thing was inserted to give L and Light fans the moment they were waiting for. Fan service, basically.

It's specific to the anime? I was told differently(aka, 'dude it's pretty much word for word to the manga').

That kinda cheapens the whole thing if it's really just added to please the fangirls... rather like Motokos thong suit in Stand Alone Complex, her giant mammary glands are plenty, surely.

I bet you enjoy making me give up on arguments Paul. :p

I agree with Paul.... :D

I really don't know why a person have to be annoyed if someone would write a fanfic of Light and L having sex.... I thinks it's just normal since there are lot of yaoi and yuri fans out there, they open their own imagination and people who feels this way will get along and for those who doesn't will be annoyed..... don't get annoyed if they have a strange imagination since everyone has different kind of thinking....

there are lots of anime fans who thinks that way (having sex) whatever the show is... even Harry Potter and Malfloy has a picture that implies they are having sex...... if that's they want then there's no one can do about it, that's why there is what we called fanfic that a writer can write whatever he/she wants and stop reading their fanfic... and where do these fanfics appear?

I hated how gay L was in one of the latest episodes of Death Note, asking to massage Light's feet and stand out in the rain with him. What on earth was up with that?

Subtext or not, I still find the existence of sexual fanfics annoying. Possibly as much as the Linkin Park AMVs that come up when you search for pretty much anything anime realated on youtube.

I thought it was lovely.

I said it was fanservice earlier, do I get a golden star? :p

No, because you left the community for about a year! Therefore, you get a bronze star..., and a smack on the back of the head.

Nah, it's just an interesting subject really. You're usually the polar opposite to me so you make a good sparring partner ;) For the record, I really enjoyed the Death Note episode in question, it was probably the best in the series so far, largely because it took risks with the subject matter. The whole L in the rain scene was especially good, even if it wasn't in the manga. I've never been a manga purist anyway.

****************

And to limp back on topic, I don't like One Piece fans. You crazy kids, pirates will never beat ninjas.

Worst fan base ever is Final fantasy I hate people who go gaga for Final fantasy. Go on deviant art and type in Final fantasy and there like a bizzilion pages of it what the hell is up with that. The games are good and the movie was ok I gues but seriously whats up with people going nuts over it.

YOU NOW MAY CHUCK YOUR ROCKS

Based on my personal experience I would have said Dragon Ball fanboys if you asked me in the past but since the release of Naruto I think my opinion has switched over to that to be honest. Any anime that is really mainstream usually has the worst fan-base because it ends up attracting the most idiots at the end of the day.

Naruto fans annoy me the same was Dragon Ball Z fans did by claiming the series is so amazing when the sad truth is that the majority of the fans I meet haven't really tried any other anime series' to really have any right in claiming what is the best.

PS. Regarding the whole Final Fantasy fan-base, if you're talking about Final Fantasy: Unlimited then I'm shocked that even has a fan-base to begin with. Nearly every Final Fantasy fan will agree that the series was awful and I will personally say it was the worst anime I have ever seen personally.
