Ninja Scroll gets the Hollywood remake....

Seems a slightly odd one for a hollywood remake - what with it being set so firmly in Japan I'm wondering what they'll do with it.

Being a pessimist I'm going to brace myself for the worst here. :(

naturally it's gonna be ****, i mean it needs to be rated 18 to be as true an addaption as possible, but even if that happens it's still going to be ******* hopeless. I mean it's just too violent to transfer to a hollywood live action.

Case in point;
within like the first 30 mins of the movie, the disguised main villain is seen banging some bitch in his dojo of sorts, some poor bastard gets his arms ripped off followed by his fellow groupies getting pwned in the trees. Jubei then proceeds to interfere with an attempted rape ending in the stone guy getting cut to ****. This is just the first 30 mins!

I heard about this earlier, and this definately is an odd one. The only director possible of doing it, and making it do well at box office is Tarantino. But, that's besides the point - I didn't like the original film, so It's doubtful I'd like this.
I wonder if DiCaprio has an real interest in anime, because it's quite strange that it's his second [third] movie that his studio will be making based on it.

...At least my Manga Essentials box set in the next five years will all have Live Action adaptations to sit next to.

An average anime film turned into a live-action flick? Sounds like fail to me.

I wonder if the monster breast sucking scene will be included - that was the highlight of the anime version.

I like the original, but I'd probably be stretching the truth saying it's actually a great film. It's very much of it's time, while the animation quality redeems it a great deal.

Take away that and move it to Hollywood - there's not really much left to like.

Never really understood why the film is so popular. I saw it as a brat and, even then, the only thing that impressed me was the female lead nudity and breast sucking scene. When I watched it many years later, having seen much in the way of hentai since my more pure days, the film did very little for me.

I don't think it's possible for a great live-action anime adaptation to be created. There's no way fans are ever going to accept acting in the place of animated expressions - it just isn't possible to capture the anime feel with realistic expressions. I mean, have you ever tried closing your eyes and speaking to someone like so many characters do? It'd look silly in the flesh.

I'll pass on this I think. A fantasy ninja story with a bunch of beefy American men and women and none of the gritty violence/sex which engraved it in my memory to begin with sounds like a waste of time all around. I do enjoy the Ninja Scoll mythos but I'd rather see more series like Basilisk spun out of it than a pale remake for no reason.

Why can't they make new movies of things that don't already have perfectly serviceable movies for them? All of this dredging up of my childhood memories that Hollywood is doing lately is very depressing. There are so many manga out there that they should do a great job on but this sounds like a train wreck from the outset.

Ninja Scroll live action? asides from that hollywood version? Pass. The film itself was decent yeah, but there is no way at all that this would work beyond japan. There is no way i could imagine an american cast trying to play any of these roles as they should be, and i expect they will no doubt re-set it to some region within america anyways. If not, then i'm wrong there, but even still, i doubt this will work, so i'm going to avoid it unless someone makes me watch it.

Will you change your mind if the breast sucking scene is included and Monica Bellucci is the one having her breast sucked? I know I will.

Monica Bellucci + Ninja Outfit + Breast Sucking = Win

But seriously, the only way I can see this film being enjoyable is if the breast sucking is kept.

If I wanted that I'd just watch porn - at least that way my childhood/teenage memories aren't raped. Sorry but I'm fussy, breast sucking won't cut it.. Though it would be a bonus I suppose :p

i really wish hollywood would stop trying to remake classic japanesse films,im waiting for dragon ball z but i think its going to be poor, tho this has protenial

Adaptations are the flavour of the month. We've been through the CG craze and the sequels craze recently. It'll pass with time. The only thing that could remotely work with American actors is Cowboy Bebop, and even that is going to be a trainwreck.

I'll pass on every live action adaptation.

I think stuff like Monster or ParaKiss could work well if handled by a more experimental studio. But Ninja Scroll? No.

I thought i heard rumours earlier this year that somebody was looking at Monster for a live action adaption...now where's that link

Looks to me they are cherry picking the early western releases in hopes of striking gold, i mean even the shows which were several japanese shows chopped together (Robotech and Voltron) are getting movies

EDIT: Monster Live Action a 2009 release for that one

So long as they don't change the setting to modern day USA and generally destroy its soul...

Scared now.

A Cowboy Bebop live-action movie would fail because of the reason the anime was so good - Spike. No actor has a chance of matching up to the animated version, and no actor will be able to beat Mr. Blum's performance on the speech side.

A Ninja Scroll live-action movie would fail because the breast sucking scene would be removed and the gore toned down. After all, cartoons are for kids...

Well in any case as bad as this ninja scroll film may be it would have to be downright awful (worse then Uwe Boll's attempts at making films) to be any worse then either the first Guyver movie or the live action Gundam movie they did (G-Saviour) Though we'll see how they do on some of the other adaptions first, i think Ninja Scroll's fate could hinge on how they adapt Akira

I think that a Hollywood Live Action version of Ninja Scroll will be interesting to see how they manage to do it. I really enjoyed the original anime version. My favourite scene in the anime version is the ending fight scene between between Jubei and the main baddie character. If Hollywood can manage to create a fight scene similar to this, I'll be happy.

:)
