We received a heads-up by the distributor on some good and bad news surrounding a few titles.

This past month has been rather unfortunate for distributor Manga Animatsu, as a fair amount of titles had been pushed back into 2018 due to unfortunate issues beyond their control. They are not alone however, as both MVM and Anime Limited were also affected by the pushbacks as the Christmas season becomes closer and closer.

However in this instance we have an unfortunate news to share related to the upcoming Blu-ray release of Soul Eater. Unfortunately the Blu-ray version will now no longer be released due to events beyond their control. The complete 51 episode series is available on DVD by the same distributor but don’t expect a Blu-ray release for the foreseeable future. Funimation have released the series on Blu-ray but only half of the set is UK Region B compatible.

The good news on the other hand is that Digimon Adventure Tri Movie 3 will have its release date pushed forward a week! The Blu-ray collector’s edition and DVD standard edition will now be available in time for Christmas on 18th December 2017! We can confirm that the Blu-ray master will be based on the Shout! Factory US release, just like the previous release was.

Stay tuned if we have any more news/updates to share!

I find it very odd that Japanese licensors charge stupid money for old shows. Soul Eater is hardly a classic, surely it would be better making a bit of money rather that being held for ransom by stupid fee's to access the masters. the same thing happened with Blood+ with Sony asking for stupid money.

I think this is a case of it being quite high due to the episode count, and with UK sales being low it just won't balance out.

(Blood+ is just Sony thinking its still worth $$$$$)

Out of their control..... so they've lost the license or been told specifically by the licenser not to bother?

I suspect that they just don't see it as profitable however, in which case it's not out of their control they're just being their usual selves.

They still have the license, but basically the Blu-ray version had high costs and they couldn't go for it. Wasn't sure whether I was allowed to explain the reasoning on the article.

That's a shame about Soul Eater, show looks great on BD and I'd have thought that it was good enough to get a BD release, but I guess when you wait 5 years people kinda lose interest (Or get it from elsewhere, I imported the Japanese boxes myself and they're really nice for what they are).

I think its a mix of DVDs still outselling BDs for most mainstream shows like Soul Eater. The DVDs have been out for awhile so most fans already have bought them, which means there is limited appeal for the BDs since most BD fans would of imported the cheap $30 US set.

*sigh* It's funny how other companies seem to do ok. I suspect a lot of the idea that it's non-profitable comes from the fact that they're so poorly regarded in the community which is largely of their own doing.

It's worth pointing out the US release is region locked and not all of us have region free Blu-ray players. I'd also like to point out that the UK dvd release is utter pants visual quality wise because they've squashed quite a large number of episodes onto each disk and as it's a fast paced show in places it begins to break up in such scenes.

Yep that's why I haven't bought it as it's locked. Sigh companies never learn

If you're lucky, you might be able to find the Madman OOP BD release for Australia on ebay or something.
You really should buy a cheap BD-player from the US at some point though, you're a bit screwed as a UK anime fan without one.

If I remember correctly, the majority of best-selling anime releases last year were actually Manga UK's.

I think Soul Eater has more than one single cause working against it too. Basically what @Lambadelta said:
  1. It's a more casual focused show, which tend to do better on DVD.
  2. It's an old show that's been available on DVD for years now.
  3. It's been available on blu-ray in other territories for quite a while, so hardcore fans who wanted it, may have already imported.

Oh well.... It's not like manga have a history of this kind of thing.....

Out of my collection: Hellsing (ovas), xam'd, freedom, casshern sins, Knights of sidonia, sengoku basara.

I bet the majinn buu kai saga never turns up here either due to 'disappointing kai sales' and there's no way I'm buying DB super until I've been through them, but they probably won't finish that either.

I'd be more sympathetic if they didn't keep recycling the same old stuff everybody has though like the new collectors editions of paprika, akira etc.

Ohhhhhhh yeh you have a point we are only getting half of what there is haha what a joke why bother releasing the damn first parts !!!! Why not just realise a damn full series!!!

I think people are being a bit hash on Manga this time. They would not release a series that could potentially make a loss due to the high cost of getting the masters. That's all there is to it

Nah not this time it's just inconsistancy with them and the fact they aren't doing rwby part 4 after doing 1-3 show aswell they are a joke really. Can't stick at one thing as serpantino says they are good at doing re release after re release!

It's not just this one thing though, it's just another in a lengthy string of manga UK letdowns and disappointments.

I don't want to see manga UK drop out of the UK but they are in serious need of fresh blood to head the company.

We all owe Jerome a big debt for being a pioneer and really pushing anime into the UK but he's a dinosaur, unwilling to change and adapt to the changing climate and he's built up so much ill will in the community with his attitude and unwillingness to fix mistakes, flaws and common complaints that its high time he was replaced.

This is true it's not going. Forward it's going backwards why do re release after re release ?
