New Aquarion Evol Trailer Streamed

A new trailer for Satelight studio’s latest take the giant mecha anime Aquarion franchise has been released on Media Factory’s official YouTube channel.

Set 12,000 years after the first Aquarion television series in a futuristic city modelled on Venice, a new cast of characters will be piloting a new Aquarion robot and fighting new enemies. The production team include original creator Shoji Kawamori as series director, Yusuke Yamamoto (Welcome to the NHK) as director, Mari Okada (Fractale, GOSICK) as screenwriter and Yoko Kanno is back to provide music through the theme song, Kimi no Shinwa (Your Myth) performed by AKINO with Bless 4, which can be heard in the trailer.

The series will roll out with a preview special on the 2nd January with the new series receiving its premiere with a one-hour special in Japan on 8th January, 2012. The official website has new character profiles and other details so why not check it out.

Now this could be cool!

The original Aquarion, I think is an interesting beast, although it gets as much wrong as it does right. There's still a bundle of potential to see the show turn into something really special.

Side note: I like the change of approach to the character design shown there.

Gotta love a song that's sung almost entirely in Japanese, save for the 'shake it down, shake it down' parts!
