To anyone who owns Beez DVDs: is there anyway to prevent them from automatically defaulting to English without subtitles at the start of every episode? This happens with My-HiME and Fantastic Children and having to change the dialogue and turn on the subtitles every single episode is seriously annoying.

That aside, it doesn't seem the wisest decision to release two fairly expensive box sets on the same day. As far as the ADV releases are concerned, Cromartie is pretty good and Mezzo isn't.

My Beez DVDs don't do that. Which player/software is it happening with? I can see it being annoying. Beez DVDs definitely do something a bit weird with their English/French etc menu system...

Already have Cromartie, have GSD on order and might grab Eureka7, which I'd completely forgotten about again, down the line. No interest in Mezzo.

These 'new' UK releases are depressing. Everything is old; outdated. Why bother paying top dollar for the anime of yesterday?

GSD is supposedly a very poor sequel to GS, which itself wasn't 10/10 worthy. Eureka Seven is loved by many (not me) but is kinda old now. Cromartie is old, has been given away in the past by ADV and isn't highly regarded. Mezzo, from what I recall, is old pervy rubbish.

If you're watching them using a computer, certain DVD software can automatically switch to the audio and subtitles of your choice. This is the main reason I use Zoom Player instead of Media Player Classic.
Usually the publishers correctly label the languages of each track. The only DVD I've played where this isn't the case is an Australian one.

Speaking for myself, I only buy R1 nowadays due to the sheer shortage of domestic titles I'm interested in.
If The Sky Crawlers is released over here I may consider buying British, but this is the only thing I can really think of.

The lack of R2 titles of interest is partly to do with why I haven't watched any anime since last month. Until Death Note gets released in full and Claymore/DtB get released, there's nothing I want to watch on DVD...and I've already seen all 3 on the net many a moon ago.

The Sky Crawlers would more than likely send me to sleep, give me a headache or a combination of the two. I'm going to stay well away from it even if it does get released on this side of the world.

In terms of films, I'd like the .hack//Trilogy CG flick to get released over here, but there ain't much chance of that when none of the .hack//G.U. games made it into PAL waters.

why not? Roots made it here, and the manga's out too

@Rui, Zin5ki

This is happening on my Sony standalone player. I've noticed that Fantastic Children actually defaults to Japanese with subtitles for the opening, to English for the episode, turns the subtitles back on during the ending, then reverts to English during the next episode preview o_0

Ok, I have to admit defeat there. My ancient Pioneer standalone is fine so I guess it could be specific titles (which I happen not to have - I don't have Fantastic Children in any form) or it's doing something unusual which is causing your poor Sony to weep (like the old R1 Bandai glitch in .hack//twilight etc where the exertion of getting to each new chapter would cause my DVD player to reboot - sigh). Have you tried bringing it up in the Beez discussion topic if it's happening a lot for Andrew to look into?

Aion: ADV/Lace might be just recycling these days (and hey, Cromartie is one of the only comedies of any kind I actually *like*!) but this is the first chance I've had at Eureka Seven. It's not a new show but the R1 release was glitched so I never touched it, and the corresponding R1 sets are only coming out at the same time - same with Destiny. I approve of Beez syncing up their set releases with R1. Syncing up the prices would be good as a next step, though in this particular case I'm happy to pay more to get discs which might actually play properly.

The Beez release also looks like it has glitch's, looking at Tasker comments on page 42 of Beez Entertainment Discussion post.

Damn annoying if both region 1/2 have problems. It's series I always wanted to get it after seeing the opening, I can't think of another anime with such a magical combination of music & animation in the beginning moments of anime opening.

As I understand it BEEZ do have plans to bring out the .hack//GU OVA over here sometime later this year. It will be the only way we will e able to (legitimately) see the conclusion of the series, since the games are never going to surface over here.

No, not yet. I thought I'd find out if anyone else was having the same issue and whether there was any known solution. The only reason I asked is because I was interested in picking up the Eureka Seven boxes, but it seems that those discs have more serious problems. I remember reading that Bandai's forthcoming Anime Legends collections will include re-pressed discs, something they recently did with My-HiME, so I might just wait for those instead.

Oh, that's a shame. Out of sync sound is still better than completely unplayable but neither is something I really want to have to put up with as a customer. I'll wait and see if Beez have fixed it for the sets, I guess (likewise for R1 Bandai). Whichever team fixes it best gets my money.

And two such big series, too! With another 2x£40 just six weeks later for the next sets.
