Need advice on Royal Mail messing up a parcel

So on Monday I was due a small parcel from Japan. Except Royal Mail texted me at 7am saying it went to the wrong depot and would be rerouted.

It's now Thursday and the thing is just sat there. Contacted Royal Mail twice about this, the second time of which they were snippy and shrugged because how dare I expect them to fix a problem they caused.

Has anyone been in this situation and know what kind of delay I'm looking at? On Tuesday I was told to expect it within a day or two but clearly that's not happening. Don't really get why something gone to the wrong depot doesn't get back on track overnight pretty quickly.

I had a similar problem occur fairly recently albeit with a bigger parcel from the US which was initially handled by Global Media Direct before moving to Royal Mail for the final stretch.

Here is the rough timeline for how the situation panned out for me:

12th May - cleared customs
14th May - Undeliverable - Returned to Local Warehouse
15th May - Undeliverable - Returned to Local Warehouse
18th May - En Route/Arrival at Destination country (no clue why it said this again)
19th May - Processed at Local Distribution Centre/Delivered

So from entering the country it took around a week to get to me after the rerouting issues. Hopefully your parcel turns up soon!
