MVM to release Disgaea anime

I think the DS version is already out in Europe, actually?

Anyway, this anime is apparentely fairly awful so even though I adore Disgaea, I think I'll give it a miss.

From what i saw yesterday whilst browsing latest game releases, Disgaea is due out on Friday, so its not out just yet.

On the note of the anime, i'll be doing like many others and passing on this, i just couldn't like it in the end, it didn't feel like disgaea even though it had prinnies, laharl, flonne and etna, it was lacking everywhere =/

well shows how much attention i payed to last week, Dave already found this out, so i'm merged the topic.

Funny how normal memebers are finding ouy info before the actually companies annouce it though

I though it would be a MVM title, as I said in the first post because it already has been released by madman.

The information was already released to the retailers and so in turn they place DVD straight on the pre-order schedule. Best place to check for new titles releases now seems to be looking through coming soon section of anime on play.com.

I don't see why, there's a million and one other liecnces MVM can be messing up with gusto right now rather than this mess of a series.

Oh and that trailer is an utter sham. The TV series looks nothing like that, uses a story that barely resembles the game's plot and just runs around like a headless chicken.

MVM owner, Tony Allen, had this to say about the announment. "Disgaea is a fun series that we are excited about adding to our growing catalogue of fantasy classics."

.....with only 2 episodes, seriously there are considerable better titles, more that are needed of a R2 European release. I mean we kinda need the variation in titles then ever, but it seems mass franchises seem to get the majority vote. I blame the economy

An anime based upon a reasonably popular game franchise will sell to a wider audience than a pure original anime title or an anime title based upon a manga. There are far more gamers in the UK than there are anime fans and manga fans combined (most of the manga fans intersect with the anime fans for a start) and if only a fraction of those are fans of the Disgaea franchise that still probably is bigger than the usual anime/manga crowd. Regardless of how those who are into anime/manga perceive the title many of those gamers will be largely unaware of any reputation and may even enjoy it without any of the preconceptions those interested in the medium may have. (I haven't seen the title myself so I will reserve any judgement until I have seen it).

though fate/stay night gets reconnection even though its based on an H-game hmmm

ponder ponder ponder
An H-game that is all but unknown to the more general populace over here where there is no homegrown distributor catering to it. You cannot really compare an H-game that was only released in Japan as opposed to a game with a more general appeal that has seen a domestic release. Besides that MVM may be considering Fate/Stay Night will not sell so well due to (if I am not mistaken) relatively poor sales of Tsukihime, which after all came from the same stable of games. The kind of people aware of these games are the same kind of people who read manga and watch anime.

Yes well all fair enough, that we admit that the video game industry is more known to use then the anime/manga trait. But the only real series that gets based of a game usually tends to look as much as an anime show itself .hack ring any bells. Then if anything goes Valkyrie chronicles should be the next best thing

.hack is a very special case that was developed along four different mediums from the first concept. It was conceived as being told starting with the anime TV series, continued with an OVA series running alongside a game and finishing with a manga series, all of which was set within and around a faux MMO game-world. The whole project started with that intention from the very start. There was no point at which a game became an anime but rather an idea that was realised in anime, game and manga all at once (or near enough at least). A more accurate simile that you seem to be searching for would be Final Fantasy: Unlimited, which by all accounts was popular despite being generally reviled in anime circles or better still, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, which was similarly slated by many in the anime world but had extremely good sales across the fan base of the game (I know a few people who were not anime fans but enjoyed the game and bought the movie).

If you or anyone else haven't already done so vote in the poll I set Up on General Anime Discussion Asking which Madman Release you want to be licensed by MVM.

Once it reach respectable no. I will send the results to mvm, so the fans can have there say for once on what titles they want licensed. There a good chance they will reply as they replied to someone else question about possible box set release of current shows.
