UK Anime Distributor MVM Entertainment Discussion Thread

Are Aniplex (Sony) waiting for MVM license to expire so they can instead license to Crunchyroll (Sony) the entire series for streaming and home video?

If that’s the case that’s some disgusting abuse of market power….

Crunchyroll has streamed the series for years, and they just started doing the movie, so the answer to that is no.

Sony Music Entertainment (who own Aniplex) operates fairly independently; Aniplex's game division has released games exclusively on Nintendo Switch and not PlayStation as a notable example.

Sometimes it's kinda hard to license stuff from Aniplex - even including companies actually owned by Aniplex sometimes struggle...
See e. g. there is no SAO Progressive Blu-ray release in Australia, despite the Madman Anime division was bought by Aniplex (before getting renamed to Crunchyroll). The new Rascal Does Not Dream movies got screened in Australia by the new anime distributor Sugoi, not by Madman/CRAU.

At least MVM was able to relicense Fate UBW

I was interested in buying Alice in Borderlands as it is the current deal of the week but after looking into it I see it is only 3 episodes long and I read that it doesn't really have an ending. I was wondering if I could get opinions from anyone who has seen it, is it still worth picking up?

Likewise, I quite enjoyed the Netflix live action series so was assuming the anime would be great too, only to find it's one of those made as a hook for the manga, which always feels like a shame, moreso if the source material is adaptation worthy.

I think there’s some note/description of the anime “series” merely being a prequel/introduction to the live action, and not intended to be a series in its own right.
I’ve only seen these anime “episodes”: I’d say yes they’re quite watchable in their own right, and they’re quite obviously setting up the characters/concepts/world for a larger ambition.

They were literally days late in announcing The Executioner & Her Way of Life. I ordered it from the US last week and it hasn't even arrived yet. 🤦‍♂️

In Germany, about 3 minutes (Water Gun segment) of Immoral Guild Ep 8 got cut for the DVD/Blu-ray for an 18+ rating.
It's possible that the series might cause similar trouble with BBFC

The World is Still Beautiful interests me, unsure if I'll pick up the CE or standard edition for Fate/Grand Carnival.

Made in Abyss I'm yet to watch in general but it's a series I'll likely pick up eventually.

Will have to look into the rest of the shows but none are jumping out at me.
