UK Anime Distributor MVM Entertainment Discussion Thread

The logistics of things like the Princess Principal and Girls und Panzer movie series have to make sense to the companies involved; it's just a question of what is going on behind the scenes. There are a few likely scenarios.

For Girls und Panzer I think it's pretty clear cut; these are hour-long, elaborate action scenes that would be difficult to produce to a TV schedule. They probably learnt that lesson while making season 1.

The other possibility is that there's dissent among the production committee. Maybe some members would prefer to do another season, but if they underperformed on their initial broadcast ratings then perhaps no broadcasters will pick it up. I could see that being the case for Princess Principal, which is a bit niche by the heavily skewed standards of modern anime.

In either case, these are probably projects that animation teams chip away at between TV projects that have tighter deadline. Add in all the usual 2020s delays and we end up in this bizarre situation where the cast of Girls und Panzer are spending a decade trying to help one girl get into college.

From the New World isn't on Crunchyroll anymore and BDs on both sides of the Atlantic are OOP, so I think Sentai/Crunchyroll (not sure what the hierarchy in this case is) has probably lost the master license. In that case getting it again would be difficult for MVM, even if they had changed their mind after I asked a couple of years ago and they said they had no plans at the time. Truly a shame, because it's a special anime in my books.

Another anime lost to the books of time due to not being licensed. No doubt it will be on the 'seven seas' if anybody wants to watch it.

Thing that makes it worse is it’s not even that old
Maybe it's a worthy topic for an article about highly rated shows which are no longer available legally in the UK (other than with second hand physical copies) as I'm sure it's not the only highly rated title which has vanished due to various licences expiring or even the company which released it going bust (ADV etc)
