Movie recommendations

The Patlabor films are good, decent stories, good animation, have dated well.

......and Manga showed every action sequence in the trailers. There is probably more robot action scenes in one episode of Gundam then there is in all three Patlabor movies.

Hmm, well if that's true then i might have a look. The trailer for the 3rd movie looked pretty slick.

The Inuyasha movies are good and so is the Saiyuki movie! Also if you like fantasy/romance movies I recommend the cardcaptor movies!
Don't like what i've seen of Inuyasha, Saiyuki or Cardcaptor. So I doubt i'd enjoy the movies. :X

It is, there's about 5 minutes of mecha action at the end, well worth catching.

God I miss watching anime in the cinema :(

That's kind of the point of Patlabor. They're more like police and detective stories rather than robot action, with slower, cleverer plots. If you liked the Ghost in the Shell movie, you'll probably like the Patlabor ones - Mamoru Oshii directed both.

I can also heartily recommend Akira, Ninja Scroll, Macross: Do You Remember Love?, and Roujin Z, amongst many others :)

I cannot understand why Manga haven't brought Roujin Z to DVD.
Some of the stuff they release never had a chance of being as good, but yet we can buy it on DVD.
Argh and curses I say.

Actually, I dislike the Ghost in the Shell movie, but I love the 2 Patlabor movies (especially the 2nd one). :)

A friend had the Patlabor 1&2 box, so I borrowed it. I watched the first movie and I can't say I really enjoyed it much, it wasn't horrible though. I was planning on watching the second one straight after but I ended up watching the 2nd Renmei disk again.

Sir Haggis: I already own Akira. I saw most of Ninja Scroll with a friend and hated it. Macross, I dunno I might check it out. I know pretty much nothing about it except that Yoko Kanno did the soundtrack.

Never heard of Roujin Z. Can anybody fill me in?

Sorry, didn't read the whole thing. You're thinking of Macross Plus, which is also very worth watching; lots of planes transforimg into giant robots.

Roujin Z is another underappreciated gem, that hasn't got a DVD release over here. Bacisally, it's about an old man whos shiny new mechanincal hospital bed gets posessed by the spirit of his dead wife, and goes on a mad rampage to get to the seaside. It's better than i make it sound :)

Can't believe I forgot this, but Spriggan is also worth seeing. Essentially, it's Akira meets Indiana Jones, and it's a bit good.
