<strong>Transformers: Age of Extinction</strong>, the fourth film in Michael Bay's film series based on the <strong>Transformers</strong> multi-media franchise, is set to be released worldwide at the end of next month. While speaking to journalists regarding his upcoming feature, the <strong>Pearl Harbor</strong> director was reportedly asked about whether he would want to direct movies based on other franchises following <strong>Transformers </strong>and <strong>Teenage Mu</strong><strong>tant Ninja Turtle</strong><strong>s</strong>, to which he apparently replied:

<em>"I don't know if you are familiar with 'Evangelion' but that's one movie that I want to direct"</em>

When pressed about whether he was currently working on the film, all he could give in response was a smile. This isn't really confirmation of anything, but could it be possible that Michael Bay is currently lined up to directed a film based on Hideki Anno's cult classic post-apocalyptic, psychological thriller mecha franchise?

God I hope this doesn't happen. I can only see this going wrong.

They've been trying to make Akira for years, why do they think Evangelion would be made?

Unless of course they did something silly like let the rights be bought with an infinite time period on actually making the thing

Unless ADV have finally given up the deadman's strangle hold on this it will never happen so just shut up already.

They say that lots of the rings couldn't be made in to a film and look at it now it's an awesome series.

Knowing the yanks there'll probably mess it up like dragonball z

I'm not saying something can't be made into a movie, just the track record for adaptations is very very bad, with few movies companies or directors having the skill, knowledge and insight to actually transition from the animated version to a quality live action version.

What amazes me is that someone even possesses the rights to live action Evangelion. Production committees have such tight reins on things it's amazing to think that they'd of sold the rights, and that those rights would have such a massive time frame in which a movie could be made in. AFAIK the reason we cannot get a re-release of the original series is because they have locked it down to allow room for the animated movie reboot, the mere idea that someone is lurking out there with live action rights boggles the mind.

Evangelion would be an absolutely awful choice for a Hollywood movie.

Ignoring for a second that the show is highly divisive of opinion among anime fan (I think it's a colossal bore), just what the heck would an audience of average moviegoers make of it EVEN IF IT WAS DONE RIGHT?

I base this observation on reaction to Gareth Edward' Godzilla, hich I saw a fortnight ago. It's a really solid Godzilla movie. It's respectful of the property and character. And half the people who saw it are whining about stuff in it that's an inherent part of what makes classic kaiju movies tick.

If Bay directed an Evangelion movie, it'd basically be an excuse to show giant robots smashing things up. Again.

Lets file this one under 'kill it with fire'.
