Synopsis

In the near future mankind has developed advanced technology and modern comforts but one problem remains: the ageing population. It is hoped that technology will once again come to help with a machine called Z-001 that is able to monitor health and provide all necessary care for the elderly replacing doctors and nurses. Kiyuro Takazawa is the first patient to be “volunteered” much to his nurse Haruko’s concern but once the machine interfaces with him it is subject to his desire to go to the beach and the machine goes beserk escaping from the hospital and leading the police on a merry chase leaving it up to Haruko to save him.

Originally released in 1991 the film was directed by Hiroyuki Kitakubo (Blood: The Last Vampire, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) and written by Katsuhiro Otomo (director of Akira). Satoshi Kon also worked on this film as art director and set designer.

According to the website this is the first time that the film will be available in HD.

I remember reading bits and pieces about this not to long back and it had me interested, but i was still fairly oblivious to what it was about. I'll be interested in picking this up to finally see what it's like, for sure.

EDIT: Longtime no see Neptune2Venus!

I remember it from Sci-Fi channel as well. Good to see it will be available at an affordable price (as opposed to market-trader rip off prices).

Hi Arbalest! Yeah, thought I'd make a grand return to the anime scene but with less flames this time around! ;)

Roujin Z is definitely a bit different and worth a watch just for all the craziness of the machine chair!

I also watched it on Sci-Fi and taped it at the same time (still have the VHS). I have the Central Park Media version which is going for a crazy amount of money on Amazon. It's good to see niche titles getting a new lease of life.

Great! With this being released, I'd love to see another classic, wings of honneamise, being released.

I miss those sci-fi channel days.

Well, people are asking for silly money, at least for new copies, but whether anyone's actually paying it is another matter.

I love this film. The DVD released by CPM is a piece of crap, so I'm thrilled that we're finally, finally getting a version that does the visuals justice.

Guess I'll get this new version then.
