Manga not releasing DBZ

After commenting a couple of days ago about the appearance of some extras pertaining to Dragon Ball Z and attributed to Manga Entertainment on the BBFC web site, the distributor has moved quickly to explicitly and categorically dismiss the idea of this being a pre-cursor to a release of the series in the UK.

In a reply to our news story on Twitter, Manga Entertainment have clarified that these extras are "just some DVD trailers on a Madman PAL disc we are using". Although it's surprising to see a release unrelated to Dragon Ball Z containing a making of feature and textless opening and closing credits for this particular series, it seems as if we can stand down from any fevered speculation for the time being.

Sincere apologies to anybody who got excited by the initial rumours, and for (to use Manga Entertainment's own words) putting one and one together and coming up with three!

Don't really see why "putting one and one together and coming up with three" applies with this situation. Sure, I was reserving any opinion until I saw a BBFC rating for an actual episode, but still...perhaps the main feature was being recycled to explain the upgrading to HD process (iirc, that's what the feature was about), but why the opening/ending?

Surely if this were the case the BBFC entry would list something other than "Additional material Collection 1". It seems strange to not include the title for which the extras are associated with if the extras have no relation to the series.

One and One together and getting three?

Oh. Yeah. Sure, dude.

We're the idiots.

We're putting adverts on a disc for a show we aren't even releasing :V

Well, this IS manga we're talking about. Chances are they had to use Madman's version of whatever half assed loli crap they got and it had the features on there for whatever reason and they were so half arsed they couldn't even submit the materials correctly.

I think it's just their edgy style to throw some backhanded comment into everything they say nowadays to make themselves sound cooler ^^;

It doesn't really work for me, the whole make-the-fans-out-to-be-dumb schtick.

R

Sounds like a defensive statement to give in the light of a cock up on their end for not noticing it or failing to give prior warning that the disc content doesn't mean that they will be releasing the actual show.

Not something i'd expect from a company, more childish playground antics "you did something wrong haha"...." yea? Well you can't count so nerr" ¬__¬ childish.

Manga arn't in the business of pleaseing fans so much as they are in taking the good will they've invested over the last five some years and pissing it down the drain.

Also, it takes some sort of special needs scout to put something that isn't even going to be released up for bbfc rating.

To be fair, did anyone want DBZ anyway, I mean we are talking about 270 episodes. For the cost of licensing that, surely Manga could instead invest it in something that is both desired and current, like Index or Madoka.
Manga licensing something decent?

Index I might give you but we're never geting Modoka if Aniplex USA is as bad as Beez is to be belived.

Also, it doesn't matter one way or another, the Orange Box (har) is R2 anyway so I can just import them, it'd just be nice to not have to jump the hoops to get them. I imagine there's a fair few non anime fans in the UK who would hump a uk release of Dragonball Z

And that doesn't absolve the stupidity of puting these extras up for BBFC rating.

291 episodes, and yeah, they'd never licence a long running show, like Bleach or Naruto.

Bleach and Naruto are terrible. MangaUK like licensing crap :V

About 80% of what MangaUK license is crap tbh xD.

Remember though guys, saying "No" is what you do in business before you can formally announce something.

So really, Twitter does turn anyone into a raging moron.
Fixed.

At the risk of crucifixion, I have to admit to not giving the slightest toss about Dragon Ball, so I'll be on my merry way.
