Sigh...

That's kind of your fault for being clueless about how the Japs are, even if they are pricks at times.

Weird. How can you blame skikes for the homophobia of some Japanese people?
I guess you missed the part where I called them pricks? Do you really think I'd call them that if I thought it was OK? I'm saying it's something to be expected. skikes should have known he'd get this kind of reaction. Going into another culture with no idea as to typical views is plain ignorance, regardless of whether it's right or wrong for the culture to think that way.

You really think I would have gone to India and not expected dodgy looks for being white?

Thats the stupiest thing i've ever heard. Not only is it nonsensical, its bigoted too.

How is it my fault that someone else is small minded?
I don't know how skikes approached the hotel people, but assuming he approached them without making fun of the guys, then it's accusing him of being clueless is like blaming a girl revealing clothes for her being raped.

If he approached them in an unrespectful way, he deserved that. If he did respecfully, he should have filed a complaint.
WTF...
What? Women get raped because the raper is mentally derranged. Your example makes no sense in this context. There's a difference between being physically harmed and being given dodgy looks and a couple snide remarks.

It's not wierd. This is the usual.
Maxon makes a point of taking issue with almost every point i make.
Trust me, the only thing going on is your persecution complex. If you want to think that the problem lies with me, go right ahead. I can't stop you.

Even silly things like you can only smoke in designated areas ON THE STREET but you can smoke in bars and stuff.

I have noticed in anime smoking still seems to be a big thing in Japan, while in Western media it is pretty much banned.
I remember that a couple years ago I've read that 50% of the adult population smoked in Japan.

Acutally, just found this that says 30 millions smoke in JP...

It is probably down to the very stressful work orientated lifestyle they live.

As for people marrying strange things I met the American woman last year that married the Eiffel Tower. She is a World Class Archer and she was at the competition I was helping at. She has a picture of it tattooed between her breasts or so I was told so she can always be with it.

Though this seems to be changing. Watching Tokyo Sonata, along with some of the BBC's Japanese week / month (whatever it was that was on a while ago) makes me think the Japanese are questioning this way of life ever more recently. The job security which was a big part of their culture (and defined many men's adult lives) is all but gone now.

I think part of why smoking is so common is the Japanese government's reluctance to go head to head with the tobacco companies. Taking down corporate interests isn't exactly Japan's speciality - especially when many of their politicians are related to prominent businessmen. As for me, I'm seriously considering one of these before the government bans them. No cancer, you can stick two fingers up at the smoking ban (for now) and plus, how f*cking cool is an electronic cigarette?

Just harmless vapour:

The Electronic Cigarette works in the following way: the user inhales on the electronic cigarette, this causes an air flow sensor to signal to the inbuilt microprocessor to activate the atomizer. The atomizer converts the liquid nicotine in the cartridge into a vapour using heat ( atomization). The vapour is inhaled by the user. Simultaneously, a water based vapour is released from the glycol by the atomizer to resemble ‘smoke'. This ‘smoke' has no risk to its user or persons around them.
How awesome is this? This is the future: Substance abuse without the negative consequences. It even looks like a cigarette holder so I can feel more like Hunter Thompson. I haven't smoked in years (because I don't want to die*) and I thought getting a sinus problem aggravated by smoke and dust was the final nail in the coffin for that habit.

Now that I can tick that one off, what's next on my technology wishlist? Ah yes, when do I get my cyberbrain?

*Ever, but then that's another story...

I love this part:

and delivers not only nicotine but a whole host of other toxic chemicals

Are you getting one? I want an Electronic Pipe, personally. I'll be the Holmes of the 24½th century.

EDIT: I was watching NANA and Nana mentioned a "Love Hotel", so I wiki'd it and this came up. I knew about pay-by-the-hour motels but its a f*cking huge business in Japan.

Apparently such businesses operate to benefit young couples who may lack accommodation with sufficient privacy to engage in sexual acts at home. If one lives with one's parents, one's options may be somewhat limited.

NANA had me thinking other things. Older man luring a young girl for sex. Man broke girls heart and that's all I've seen so far. They seem interesting, though. Sex (literally) sells more than anime does.

Parents and siblings of adult males that don't knock get damn annoying. :p You wait till they're asleep only to end up too sleepy. :p I can see the need for the hotels. :p
