Weird. How can you blame skikes for the homophobia of some Japanese people?

It's not wierd. This is the usual.
Maxon makes a point of taking issue with almost every point i make.

Guys and Dolls. It was a Channel 4 documentary. Really interesting (and sad). The ones the people used are called RealDolls.

Hadn't seen that one, was a big general "wtf is wrong in japan atm" thing. Also had stuff about host clubs, and how some of the guys in host clubs are women that took hormones, to where the women can fool around with them without fears of pregnancy o_O.
*clicks link* Wasn't those ones, was mainly ones that looked more anime-esque, those all look like average prostitutes. :p And I was not aware they did male ones lol, those faces are icky. *sticks with bf* :p

On a similar note Japanese man has hundreds of love dolls

Oop someone did an article-ish blog on love doll rental

She should have run away with a Enix character on the day of wedlock. Oooh drama. The way that website discussed it seemed like it was a very tongue-in-cheek dealio. Cos I'm curious, if he (or she) finds someone else, starts having an affair, would they have to go through a divorce? Can the DS character become not committed?

 i can see it now.

"You where touching my wife!"
"i was playing a game"
"YOU WHAT? just what sort of perverted games where you playing?"
"nothing, i just put my cartridge in her DS and turned her on"

*que fight scene*

:p

Or it could be, you know... Skikes' ignorance of the countries customs and how they work, considering a while ago he wanted to "get smashed" in Japan. Brilliant!

What "customs" are you talking about? I'm studying the Japanese language and Japanese culture, I've met dozens and dozens of Japanese exchange students, my culture lecturer is Japanese himself; nowhere have I found that asking for directions is rude or inappropriate in Japanese culture. I've also found out that Japanese people, especially young people, drink a lot of alcohol in night clubs too. So, please enlighten me, a mere student of the country for the past year and a half, in what way did skikes violate Japanese "customs" when he asked for directions?

... So? It's a bit random, plus he's a foreigner, I mean personally I'd have no problems with it, but he's obviously a guest. Also "customs" wasn't exactly the word I should have used, but oh well.

Thats the stupiest thing i've ever heard. Not only is it nonsensical, its bigoted too.

How is it my fault that someone else is small minded?
I don't know how skikes approached the hotel people, but assuming he approached them without making fun of the guys, then it's accusing him of being clueless is like blaming a girl revealing clothes for her being raped.

If he approached them in an unrespectful way, he deserved that. If he did respecfully, he should have filed a complaint.

There is absolutely nothing more japanese than getting smashed =0)

Random? Like I said, it depends on how you approached the hotel people. If approached respectfully, they should have simply said they don't know. If skikes asked them "Which gay club you go to?" then that's why they made fun of him.

Eh, how is random? Tourists in a hotel asking for directions to a gay nightclub ... what's the big deal? How is this a violation of Japanese culture? I wouldn't say skikes was a "guest" considering, you know, I'm pretty sure he was paying the hotel in which in stayed to accommodate him. So wtf is your point? :s

This is very true. Japanese people love getting completely off their faces during the festival of Hanami, for example, when they sit under Cherry Blossom Trees and drink sake until the early hours of the morning. I don't think you should be accusing anyone of being ignorant of Japan, Lupus; you're clearly very much ill-informed yourself.

To be honest....i think its a misconception that japan are a reserved race who are still shy of subjects like sex.
Considering in pretty much every country there are brothels, strip clubs or otherwise Cathouses. So in fairness.....no country on this planet is abject to sex.

Japan have rather alot of things to suggest that they are, if anything, more at home with the topic of sex than other nations.

1 art depictions, Hentai, Yaio and yuri. need i say anymore on that?
2 Lady-boys....Nuff said.
3 If anyones seen memiors of a Geisha, you'll know that sex isn't so much a reserved thing as you'd think
4 porn.....although its pixelated by law, its still happening.....and in some cases they are doing it with animals...

With those in mind, i think that Skikes asking for directions and being sniggered at by the staff is hypocritical if anything, on the staff's side.

As stated before, its not necrophilia so its not jaw dropping stuff.

(rushing to go to lunch, maybe typo's and may not make sense)

Shy they are. don't take this from what you know about their pop culture. One thing is to have movies about it, another completely different is to discuss sex openly.

Yes i was very respectful. Me and bren had few drinks at the hotel bar. Got ready to go out. Came down to the front desk and asked about the gay scene. The ladies face dropped. She got a man. His face dropped. They went in the back. They came out laughing. They refused to tell me about it or give me directions. Clearly they knew i was talking about ni-chome because they phoned us a taxi to there without us asking. On our return they asked were we hairdressers! LOL

The next day though we got chatting with the hotel liaison. A Philippine women who didnt have very nice things to say about the Japanese. Said she had lived there for 10years and worked in the hotel for years but she had always felt like an outsider and that they never really accepted her. But she was lovely and told us about the best gay spots and the japanese attitude towards it and stuff. She was cool.

But don't get me wrong the staff weren't rude to us before or after that. They were very friendly and tried their best to help us out. And we met lots of very friendly japanese people. And alot of business men wanting to practice their english lol

It may just be one of those things. If you had asked where you could get a call girl that serviced gaijin you may have got a similar reaction. In many cultures things that it is common knowledge go on, are not always openly discussed with people you have not known for some time. As for the hairdresser remark maybe they have only seen Western shows where hairdressers are portrayed as being gay, like some bad old comedy.

My sister have been living there for 19 years and is still and "outsider" or gaijin. For all that matters, she looks japanese.

One thing i did notice is that its a very contradictory country. They say one thing and do another.

They respect their elders but they wouldn't give up a seat on a train for an eldery person. Every time i was the train i always gave up my seat for women and old people.

They don't talk about sex but IT'S EVERYWHERE! We kept getting African men coming up to us trying to get us to go to brothels. And picture like ths are just in the street.... NSFW.... edit: nevermind i can't seem to spoiler images :/

Even silly things like you can only smoke in designated areas ON THE STREET but you can smoke in bars and stuff.

I have noticed in anime smoking still seems to be a big thing in Japan, while in Western media it is pretty much banned.

I remember that a couple years ago I've read that 50% of the adult population smoked in Japan.

Acutally, just found this that says 30 millions smoke in JP...
