Man in Japan marries Anime Game Character

I think this is being taken out of context.

I'm fairly sure this is meant to be ironic performance art or something... at the very least, a publicity stunt.

skikes, we're talking about Japan. It's definitely not irony.
ditto

From his comments
"Now that the ceremony is over, I feel like I've been able to achieve a major milestone in my life. Some people have expressed doubts about my actions, but at the end of the day, this is really just about us as husband and wife. As long as the two of us can go on to create a happy household, I'm sure any misgivings about us will be resolved."

"As for what's next, we still haven't gone to see my parents, so we will be going home together on New Years to officially announce our marriage."

Someone comments on boing boing:
"In most Asian cultures people don't judge you like Americans love to do."

thing is, japanese does judge people an awful lot. but not to their faces though, unless of course, if you're family.

Wow.

Just wow. A DS character of all things.

The big question though is was the person performing the marriage dressed as hello kitty?

hahahaha, thats different... i think its the pinnacle of Otaku. i'm still wondering how the hell this actually happened.....how did they get the DS to say "I DO" it makes no sense at all.

who's father walked em down the isle?

Tbh when i first saw this i though "one of the actors that voice over anime characters has got married with a japanese bloke" then i read it....

To be honest, if Love Plus came out in the UK in english, I would probably want to marry it too. Or any female staff who were responsible for the release anyway.

Yeah they really do! One night when me and bren were in japan we asked the hotel staff about where the gay bars were. They nearly dropped dead, just didnt want to give us an answer or directions. They made such a big deal about it, and were smirking and laughing to eachother. Which is wierd because they were so helpful and nice about everything else.

That's kind of your fault for being clueless about how the Japs are, even if they are pricks at times.

Thats the stupiest thing i've ever heard. Not only is it nonsensical, its bigoted too.

How is it my fault that someone else is small minded?

If a muslim man walked upto someone he had never met and asked were the nearest mosque was and they started laughing at him, that would be his fault for not knowing that person was bigoted?

She should have run away with a Enix character on the day of wedlock. Oooh drama. The way that website discussed it seemed like it was a very tongue-in-cheek dealio. Cos I'm curious, if he (or she) finds someone else, starts having an affair, would they have to go through a divorce? Can the DS character become not committed?

Whatever. I'd imagine its the highest honor to have some otaku marry the character you spent two years creating.

I thought this had already happened before? Or was it that it almost happened but was stopped?

I'm wondering how she "made a speech", I guess there's a wedding part to that game?

From something I saw a while back, it had said the men and women aren't so interested in eachother lately Hence the birthrate drop, so this isn't too surprising. (Had all sorts of odd stuff, including a place guys went to pay to ...sleep with a love doll, which they choose the wig and clothes for. Said they preferred it over real women cause it was less effort). I guess if he's mastered this game he's got his ideal interaction (in his head). I dunno, I've known alot of guys that would technically prefer their real life gf's to be basicly the same as having an imaginary one that they just sleep with when they want it. :p (Note, this is not me saying all guys are like this, this is me saying I've met them :p)

Guys and Dolls. It was a Channel 4 documentary. Really interesting (and sad). The ones the people used are called RealDolls.
