Look What I read In Metro Today

I was reading the metro today (29/06/10) and happened to come over this small text box which said 'What We've Found Online'
the first website was an anime site but not something legal like crunchyroll but instead they put up an illegal website and listed some of the anime on there like Bleach and Full Metal Alchemist.
I'm happy that it was featured on the metro but this is the same as if you would have posted a place to stream all the newest movies in the cinemas

Ugh. I'm going to complain to them. And I suggest anyone else as appalled at this as I am do so as well. What horrible journalism!

It seems as though from Manga's Twitter that Metro have already shrugged off their attempts to complain. I think that Manga should complain to the regulators, really, but in the meantime some expression of the fanbase's disapproval may at least make them think twice before running this kind of thing again.

(I wasn't annoyed in the slightest at the anime killing drama article but this is below the belt.)

Metro probably assumed it was legit.

Wonder if, now the spotlight is on this site, if they are going to find themselves in trouble?

Pretty much my reaction, too. The other thing was just standard, this is someone going above and beyond the call of duty to be stupid.

In tomorrow's print edition:

Erratum: It has been brought to our attention that a website mentioned in yesterday's article contains illegally hosted content. This website should not be viewed.
Nor should ours.
Now finish your coffee and mind the gap as you leave.

What newspaper or news channel is fair and balanced they tell you what you should think instead what is really happening.

There are loads of corrupt things happening and its usally people in the media who profit from it that go unreported.

most tend to be far left.

also why was this in the metro was there nothing else to report.

Breaking story website has anime on it.

Isn't promotion of illegal material an offense in itself?
Illegal material yes but not unlawful material, I think.
Otherwise you wouldn't be able to name sites like TPB in the news.
Most copyright violations are civil not criminal.

Also the only way to tell that you are breaking copyright, in some cases (or tell who the rights holder is) is when you get a C&D letter. Until that point it may be ambiguous.

I'm not sure I get the difference between illegal and unlawful here... IE. If weed was unlawful, rather than illegal, I could promote weed consumption then?

He means something you have to have someone accuse you of, rather than something that the crown can bring against you.

unlawful= breaks civil law: against specific person(company) and it's largely at their disgression wether an offence was comited or not. Fine payed to the injured party or other financial settlement. e.g. breaking a contract

illegal= breaks criminal law, prosecuted by the crown. Gaol time(or comunity service etc.) or fine payed to the state. e.g murder
