Live-action anime adaptions, what would you like to see?

I'm not usually a big fan of the live-action anime. Allthough I did like Casshern, that was pritty cool. Cool enough to own on DVD anyway. XD
The only reason the Transformers movie became so big was because the anime was directed at the american audience in the first place. It was only a matter of time that the Americans would make a movie out of it. They seem to with everything else. I must say I was disappointed, but that mite just be me.
Series like Cowboy Bebop sound like they'd make an awsome live-action, though I hope they don't bother. You couldn't get any better than the anime. A live-action would just dirty the Bebop name.
Kinda looking forward to the EVA movie, but that's just me being nosey. I really hope it does a good job however I reckon it's gonna fall on it's ass.

I think Gundam would be a good call. I've only seen Wing, but considering how well Transformers 2007 was pulled off, i'm sure Gundam would be even better, as the human aspect is required and wouldn't be pointlessly added like it was in Transformers 2007.

The only problem being they'd have to throw a lot of money into it to even get close to a Transformer visual level. Sadly, americans don't seem to be as interested.
Would be awsome though 8)

Very true. The Transformers film had a fair budget of $150 million. I seriously doubt an anime franchise would get that, short of DBZ and the other really mainstream stuff...

That's the problem :x
That's why I don't think they should bother. There'd be no real point if the live-action movie couldn't stand up to it's anime counterpart. Alltough I'd never say no to a viewing. You never know someone mite pull it off someday.

In all honesty, I think mecha series are about the only type that could translate even half well to a hollywood film. Anything else that comes to mind, e.g. DBZ, Bleach, etc I really doubt you come across as anything except terrible (thinks Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat films)

Although knowing nothing except the absolute basic concepts, I could a Naruto film being ok...

Most romance storys could be made with ease into a Hollywood movie. But I don't think there is much of a appeal there to the generic male American.

I think those would be the last type of series to make the transition. More than likely it'd be a more actiony series. I don't want to say mainstream, cos that's crap like pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, but it'd be something that has quite a large fanbase already

About 10 or 15 years ago I would have said a Lupin III movie with Bruce Campbell as Lupin.

Now that is pure GENIUS

Would love to see a live action film of Air Gear, with todays special effects the wall riding would look awesome

Totally agree, how awesome would mechs look! I'm really suprised Hollywood has never looked to mechs before.
Anyone know whats happening with the Neon Genesis film, last i heard it was still in production hell and on hiatus and that was about a year ago, nothing major has been mentioned since.
Apparently WETA workshop gets more emails about NGE than any other film they are co-operating with, shows the fanbase is there.

I would honestly cry if they touched Bebop or Champloo lol

The mechs would look awesome as long as the budget was right. Neon Genesis Evangelion would make a good hollywood blockbuster. The design of the mechs could do with jazzing up similar to how the Transformers were, but the shape of the NGE mechs would differentiate it from the TF07 film

Hmm it could work perhaps, theres certainly a lot of potential but fitting the entire series into one film? No chance. Thankfully the last i heard of the film someone high up was making claims that it would be a trilogy, IF the first film was a good enough hit.

But im really not sure, EVA gets so spinny near the end of the series that im really not sure if they could carry it off. Producers would moan that they're leaving out "everyone but the fans" and im sure all those Christianity references wont go down well.

Slightly going off topic for a mo, has anyone heard about Philip Paulman's Dark Materials set of books being made into films? Old news i know but my GOD they've torn everything that MADE those books out. Just another generic fantasty film now. I really hope they dont do the same to EVA, or any other anime title for that matter, a foolish hope i know :)

Ahh, yes His Dark Materials. I've heard conflicting stories about how much has been pulled, and I do agree the EVA could suffer from the same problem (although i've only seen the first half of the series so far). But like I said, EVA could well be a cracking summer blockbuster just with big mecha action of the blowing up aliens variety :D

Hehe too true, ive got conflicting thoughts on it really, i mean an all out, special effects, explosion fest with EVAs just going loopy tunes, dealing out the beats left right and centre, i mean who wouldnt be excited?

But that just wouldnt be EVA. I want to see EVA given the best Hollywood money can offer, but at the same time i want it to stay as far away from Hollywood as it possibly can.

Ok i admit it, i'll never be happy regardless of whether they make it or not

:p

Its a nice idea turning anime to films, though to me its like saying live action is a step up from animation, while I feel that live action and animation are simply different with their own sets of strengths and weaknesses.

There's plenty of stuff that has enormous potential as films, but some ideas either wouldn't translate into live action or would be given a completely different spin by hollywood.
