Live-action anime adaptions, what would you like to see?

With the news of Dragonball Z possibly due to get the Hollywood treatment, and with the success of Transformers. I was wondering what other anime series you would like to see adapted for the western audience, and what do you think would work the best?

Personally there are probably countless things i would love to see given the chance to shine on the big screen, though some things would probably work better than others.

Escaflowne - it's always blended Shounen and Shoujo themes together perfectly, the story is packed full of action and romance, and everything that makes a good movie.
Paranoia Agent - if you take the basic premises of the story i think it could make an excellent psychological thriller.
Samurai Champloo - maybe this wouldn't work, but with Memoirs of a Geisha being a success i think there is a distinct lack of Samurai films in hollywood
and so many more like:
Last Exile, Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto and Bleach even.

I think with the length and depth of alot of anime series it would be almost impossible to make a perfect film adaption of any of them, but i think Hollywood is severely missing out if they don't try and tap some of the ideas held in anime, like they have been with adaptions of popular books

I'd love to see the Neon Genesis film get past production hell i know the Eva's would look awesome but they'd ruin it with casting. And you just cannot fit all of NGE's storyline in to one film which they most likely would as they would have no idea if it would get good enough reviews or gate receits to warrant a sequel to span the story out.

I can honestly say i'd rather they didn't try to hollywoodise Manga and anime and leave it to the Japanese.
Japanese live action? hmm
Didn't they make Death Note in to a live action, was it any good?
Anime films like Grave of the Fireflies (which is going ahead) can be done, but to make a series in to a one off film, i just don't like the idea of it.

I can't see many anime/manga fans wanting there to be live action versions of their favourite shows etc because of casting and budget reasons would make it incredibly difficult to achieve a credible film especially when they'd most likely cram an entire series or half into one film. It would be a hacked out storyline.

I'd rather them stick to animated films

Probably the ones that were made with the western market in mind. Personally i think Black Lagoon would make an excellent movie trilogy and people at the cinema would eat it up.

Not many series would be able to transfer from anime to live action and the majority are better left alone. Things like Ghibli, Akira, Bebop etc are all better left untouched. But there are series that would be great in live action.

They are hilariously good. The second one is better though. The Yotsuba arc is COMPLETELY changed. But meh. Its a film about Death Note.

I wouldn't really like any made into Live-Action films. But if its nesscery, Stay far away from most Jump titles. . .Please.

Hmm. . .A Elfen Lied one, Porn of course. Just for the lulz.

I really don't want a Live-Action adaption of any anime I've seen. Except maybe for to see that Universal One Piece show thing thats happening. XD.

They should make a live-action movie based on Yu-Gi-Oh, just imagine it! Real life or death challenges, winner taking all, loser dying, they already have the cards to use, might as go ahead and do the movie, srsly.

Hmm i wish Hollywood would keep their greasy mitts off of anime and manga titles. Unless said manga/anime is very superficial it just wont work.

Transformers kinda worked because all there is to it is the transformers (and Bay still managed to **** that up, i wanted giant robots whacking each other not a dawson's creek romance story) but something as deep as EVA? I'm surprised they'd let EVA through the US censors actually, since Christianity must be shown in nothing but a perfect light or not at all. Also the whole teenager thing wont go down well with an american audience: sexuality, psychology, self-loathing - all of these will either go straight over or bounce harmless off their thick skulls :p

I've heard rumours of an "americanization" of Battle Royale in the works (got it off the wiki) I lolweeped. How in the hell are they going to get anything like the true Battle Royale shown in america? If memory serves i think the original has never been released over there, none of the publishers will touch it with a barge pole.

I've heard about this as well. Looking at Battle Royale, It really doesn't compare gorewise of other movies like Saw, Hostel etc. I think they could easily get away with it.

I had other things to say. But I lost my train of thought. *Sigh*

Theres so many more i could say but it would take to much time to tell everyone so just do with these

Air gear - I just realy want to see what they could do with the air treks

Battle Vixens - Just seeing some high school kids kick the **** out of each other would just make my day :D The fan service would be great also

Only if they stay away from the schoolkid side of it - make it adults and yes it will get past the censors no problem, but kids are a big moral no-no. The thing is once they do that the film loses all of its impact, its just a gore fest like Hostel (Saw at least had a message).

I prefer anime to live-action, so live-action versions of anime don't interest me all that much! I would, however, love if the Evangelion movie by ADV was made (and Matt Greenfield seems pretty positive about it).

Lol I just watched both, perfect for a fluey sunday sneezing your head orf.

I'm not particularly looking forward to Hollywoodland live action versions, but when they start seeing big bucks
possibilites the horror nightmare is seeing them churning them out without much consideration to the source.

I quite like live action film and drama, unfortunately there are many really crappy versions, and by crappy I don't mean
that they didn't follow the original religiously, just that they're really bad with extremely crappy excecution and script.
It really depends, but sometimes I even like that they deviate from the original, it keeps up the suspense in what's going to happen, but then in all likehood I've already read the manga and seen the anime soo...

In the films you just have to chop off so much material that you need someone with good nous to make it a working whole.
Some of the drama has fared better than the films, when they've stayed true to the story or spirit of it. Some I've really loved, like the HYD drama. There was a manga "feeling" to it which was quite enjoyable.

One that I'd love to see is a well made Wallflower-Perfect Girl Evolution kick-ass Sunako and the bishounen hehe, ofcourse it would be so easy to ruin it with casting etc, but then I would of never thought I'd like Matsumoto Jun for Domyoji in HYD, but he was such a small furious animal he made the role his own.

I can see a lot of people being really dissapointed with the live action, bound to be dissapointing most of the time it's such a different thing after all. My "excuse" is I love my drama aswell as manga and anime and I've watched so much Japanese/TW/Korean drama and film that it's a piece of piss for me and I don't have the need to gouge my eyes out, write furious letters to producers and set light to things after viewing them. Some of them turned out quite well, so there's hope

I would love o see a live action version of:

Cowboy Bebop - If done right it would be brilliant. Get the right cast and the right people playing spike, Faye, Jet, Ed & Vicious, the right cgi done then it would be great

Hellsing - This could easily be done similar to the way Blade was done

Ahh good idea, that is one of the few i'd be willing to give a chance. Then again if they mess it up there'll be hell to pay! Bebop is so good because its been left untouched and hasnt had innumberable spin offs or re-releases to sully its image.
Urgh i dunno, some things really are better off left alone, just imagine if they tried to remake Fawlty Towers today......

About 10 or 15 years ago I would have said a Lupin III movie with Bruce Campbell as Lupin.

I don't know about you guys, but I think a live action version of Gunslinger Girls would be pretty awesome. Although if they made a Hollywood version it would focus on the action rather than following the focus which was set in the anime.

An american version will be completely devoid of any of the qualities that the original film has that makes it so good.Battle Royale doesn't need to have a gore factor to make the film utterly terrifying,it's ideas are strong enough to put it in a completely other league compared to pointless gore fest films.Im pretty opposed to it as you can tell :3

Anyway,i think a Samurai Champloo one may be interesting also actually. As a huge Saiyuki fan i would normally say that, but the monkey story has been used in so many films/TV programmes/comics etc already ^^'

Hmm, not quite anime, but over the past few years I have almost completely scripted how a series of FFVII movies would work. It would combine the epicness of LOTR with awesome fights! Uematsu would have to do the music, of course... and Mr T would have to be Barrett.
