Here is a trailer for the forthcoming anime adaptation of the 2010 video game Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate.

Synopsis
<em>
Yūki Ōjima is a student at Takafuji Private Academy and a member of the Food Research Club along with seven others, including his childhood friend Chisato Sumiyoshi. With student council election coming students are campaigning to get elected on various platforms. Front runner Satsuki Shinonome wants to axe clubs that have no merit which means that the Food Research Club is in danger. On the advice of current student council president Yakumo Mōri, Yūki runs in the election as an opposing candidate and learns more about the school and its students.</em>

There is the involvement of school-story genre veterans with episode direction handled by Tōru Kitahata who should be familiar from last year’s Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai. Katsuhiko Takayama (ef: a Tale of Melodies, Dusk Maiden of Amnesia) is in charge of series composition and Hiroaki Gohda (Amagami SS) is in charge of character design and chief animation director. Music is delivered by Elements Garden (Uta no Prince-sama, Bodacious Space Pirates) and the animation is being produced by AIC.

The show launches next month.

I think a major problem with the Japanese animation industry is that they keep on making animated adaptations of what I can only presume to be awful video games. Of course, there seems to be a huge audience who eat this kind stuff up, so hey why not.

Ah so they have finally moved on from light novel adaptions? :D

If it sells it means the industry is kept alive in these troubled times, give it a few years and we might see more original stuff.

True, we've just gotta ride the wave, as they say. Still I'd take a light novel adaptation over a visual novel adaptation any day, I mean visual novels practically already are anime, just with really bad animation. All these studio's usually do is take them and give them (slightly) better animation.

I agree with you completely. Yay, another anime with generic girl archtypes with 'tragic stories' to sell to otaku. Unfortunately these are only going to increase with the current economic situation.
 
While I intend to ignore this particular series as it seems forgettable, I have to say there have been a number of extremely good non-pandering titles recently too. If people aren't watching them (to show strong streaming performance) or buying them (for obvious reasons), it's no wonder insipid romantic comedies and cute schoolgirl shows are still coming out in droves instead.

There is a bit of a glut of that kind of thing in this summer's offerings for whatever reason, but the shows we've had in the last few months have been unusually strong, so it balances out (maybe).
