As reported by Otaku News, ITV2 have begun a new documentary series "Kelly Osbourne: Turning Japanese" in which the reality TV starlet samples the unique delights of Japan's unique pop culture, from love hotels and samurai to otaku maid cafes and cosplay.

Turning Japanese airs on Thursday evenings at 9pm and is repeated on Sunday at 10pm. It began this week.

I normally cant stand her. But I have to say I loved some on the comments she came out with at the love hotel that just made me laugh.

I watched it, the first part of it was disgusting, The sex hotel was like... ewwwwwwwwwwwww.

But the second part, with the sumari was actually good. Now I wanna be a sumarai.

I don't like Kelly Osbourne, but its japanese culture, good enough for me to watch

i watched it on sunday. i think kelly was a bit babyish when she sed she wouldnt rub that guys hand, i mean its not as if she is touchin anything dirty if you know what i mean. shes gettin paid for it aint she.
the sex hotel when they left you know what on the table, omg that was manky. cnt wait to see what kelly looks like in cosplay, that is gonna be summat to laugh about. :D

Pretty well half the show can be summed up as Kelly going "I really don't like this" and "OMG WHY ARE THE JAPANESE ANGRY AT ME!?" Couldn't possible be because you're being freakin rude to them, could it!? >_> No no.. it's their crazy culture that makes them upset when I spill hot coffee on their hand...

And dammit the love hotel thing made me angry. "OH MY GOD THEY'RE HAVING SEX IN THERE!" :D NO WAI! For pete's sake... Plus that part where she's handed the guy in one of the rooms a beer; "Weirdo.." WHAT? WHY? Because he's gonna have sex with a woman!? OH MY GOD! HOW WEIRD! =D Those crazy japaneses....
Admittedly there were bits that were a bit yucky, like the discarded sex toys and tissues, but really you ought to expect stuff like that in such a place. Is she really that sheltered?

The samurai part was kinda cool though, and admittedly them being offended wasn't Kelly's fault, the guide should've remembered. :/

I stopped watching as soon as the superbowl came on. I'll give it its dues, the show itself is entertaining enough, it's just also infuriating at the same time.

Ok here's the scoop. Over the last couple of days at college I've heard a few people talking about this show and they are getting the wrong impression of Japanese culture seeing them as simply perverts, weird angry animation freaks with no sense of humour.

One guy actually approached me today about the book I was reading ('Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End Of the World' by Haruki Murakami) and stated 'Oh you're into that pervert **** an'all'. Confused I replied '..what?' to which he responded 'all that japanese crap, didn't you see that Kelly Osbourne show with her showin' stuff about Japanese culture? They're all perverts'. Well what could say except 'If you think Kelly Osbourne is the leading expert on on other cultures then you must be on twice the dosage of whatever her dad's on'. Now of course this guy is an ignorant idiot who obviously believes only whatever he sees on TV but idiocy spreads and if enough people say something it becomes fact.

It's rather frustrating that just when anime is slowly creeping it's way into being more well know in this country that it could be potentially kicked down a hill by these so called documentaries about Japan. Entertaining as they are people seem to be taking them as fact.

Just my thoughts...

I've heard a lot of people saying generally the same things, its ******* annoying really/

Are you saying there's more to anime than PORN!? >_> That's just crazy talk!

Freakin' agree there, mustaine. Bloody stereotype is just being stamped back into the limelight again.

Ah well, just ignore em. Let em worship Kelly Osbourne, they're the ones missing out on all the fun.
