Keanu Reeves working on live action Cowboy Bebop movie

All I'll say is that if Keanu Reeves is in a lead role then the movie will be poor. He is the most wooden actor in Hollywood, I'm amazed he's so popular. When you see him in a movie you're waiting for him to turn into a real boy.

The only role I could accept him in is Vicious so I hope he's got more sense than wanting to play the part of Spike.

There were episodes that were part of a basic plot. All of the episodes involving Vicious and/or Julie (or whatever her name is) were part of it. There's enough material to make one. They can also just make it take place during the series but be like a long episode (e.g. Knockin' On Heaven's Door).

That's what i mean. Why use the best material the show has in one movie, obviously they can't be thinking of a sequel then if that is the case.

Unrelated but... You know after everyone pretty much EVERYONE is complaining about how America is adapting all these Japanese series I think I know the perfect one that would please America and do well. The first three volumes of the Berserk manga. Not very much happens plot-wise it's just Guts going around pissed off slaying demons and being GAR and manly, this could definately be acceptable for American standards, two and a half hour movie of some huge half naked guy slaying demons in the name of revenge.

America would love it.

Keanu Reeves as Spike Speigal doesn't really work for me, but i'll wait and see anyway. And as for picking bits from the series, ok Red Eye does the job of getting started, but i'd find it hard to pick bits and pieces from the series, bar the whole story with Spike and Vicious.

I'm with Paul though, i'm probably more worried about the soundtrack. The series certainly is brilliant in a lot of its aspects, but its soundtrack has always stood out for me, so regardless of how the film actually works out story wise, unless it has the right style of music which i feel just makes Bebop, Bebop, i'm gonna feel like there is something missing. I'd wish more than anything that Yoko Kanno did the soundtrack, but i can't see it happening. I don't really see how they will be able to make the soundtrack as memorable because of that. =/

To be honest, if they don't get Yoko Kanno, John Williams or a seriously talented jazz group behind this. the film has already failed.

Bruce Lee used very aggressive techniques. Spike used the defensive types that took advantage of momentum. The two couldn't be anymore different.

The creator of Spike said he based Spike's fighting style on Bruce Lee. I'm not a watcher of Bruce Lee films, nor a lover of martial arts in general, but I would've thought if they both used the same style then there wouldn't be too much difference.

I did she a video of Bruce Lee telling on interviewer what Spike told to someone amazed by his fighting techniques: that the body has to move like water, using the force of the ebemy against them. Since Bruce Lee spoke like that, surely his fighting style wasn't exactly offensive? It sounds more like a counter-attacking style.

But, er, Spike isn't an emotionless character. He's a tough character who doesn't reveal much about himself even to his friends, but he tended to always have a smile on his face - even in the face of death. I can't see how Keanu, who can only play dull/lifeless characters, has any hope of pulling off someone like Spike.

If Keanu was playing Vicious he'd have a chance of pulling it off since Vicious is an emotionless, cold-blooded killer, but I doubt he'd even manage that with his acting ability.

So, does this mean that we won't see Faye or Ed in the film? Because they don't appear in the Red Eye episode, nor the bit at the end.

Probably a safe move, since Ed would be a risky character to put in place. Unless you found a little girl version of Johnny Depp :p

Jeet Kune Do or Way of the Intercepting Fist is Bruce Lee fighting style. You stand correct about spike combat style being inspired in Bruce Lee.
As for Spike style not being violent I beg to differ:

mm, good catch. Will have to re-watch bebop at some point, as I don't really remember everything from the red eyes. Not that I remember everything from anything though.

Why oh why oh why every time people come up with ideas for a possible cast for movies Johnny Depp is one of the names? I've never really been terribly impressed by his ability to play varying roles.

Ed is an eccentric character; a character that would be almost impossible for a real actor to pull off. Depp played the role of one of the most eccentric characters ever, raising the PotC to heights it never would've reached without him being in it to hide the faults of his wooden co-stars.

Possibly because he is a good actor and you're the only one who hate him?
I do understand you though. If he were in every film out there, it would be really boring and his fangirls / boys are becoming annoying.

I don't hate him and in some roles he works well but I've never considered him that convincing of an actor in multiple roles which just becomes pretty boring to watch. I just find it irritating that seemingly every movie that's rumored it's usually...

'Oh yeah I hear Johnny Depp is playing the Riddler/The Joker!'

'Johnny Depp would be so awesome as Number 6 in The Prisoner remake'

'If they made a movie based on that Monster manga then Johnny Depp would be great as the lead!'

And so on...

Don't worry, we Depp fans will make you hate him soon enough... ;D

Back on topic: my pick for cast-

Jet - Ron Perlman
Faye - Milla Jovovich (I'm shallow and predictable, I know)
Ed - One one really comes to mind for her, but as long as it's some kid with loads of caffeine, it should be ok =)

Christian Bale is like Keanu Reeves but with the ability to show emotion and act. So he's really nothing like Keanu Reeves really.

I don't think there's an actor in existence that can match up to anime Spike. There's just something about him in animated form that makes him special; that makes him the #1 character on so many peoples list. It's pretty much impossible for a Hollywood actor, who probably hadn't even heard of Spike before getting called about the film, to be able to please fans.

I just hope the "cat" conversation Spike and Jet shared is kept. That was the best part of the entire series and the only time Spike opened up - it'd ruin the film and Spike's character if it's skipped. But, since the film will no doubt be a rubbish action flick with none of the style that made the TV series great, I'm not expecting anything even bordering on character development to get a look in.

I wonder if it might work better if they had an unknown or lesser personality as Spike who matched the character better, but then used bigger names for Jet and Faye (if she's in it) that would sell the movie.
