Is DVD a Dying Format for UK Anime?

I'm actually somewhat surprised that the industry hasn't yet moved away from spinning discs altogether and went with some sort of solid state flash drive device similar to a USB stick to distribute physical anime or live action movie releases. Kind of like those square plastic data cartridges that inserted into a slot they used in the original Star Trek series. That can't be too far off in the future.

I think they know physical media is dying and rather invest in Streaming methods.

It's been tried...

It's just another storage medium, and right now the impetus is towards cloud storage, servers where the content is owned and controlled by the distributor, and can be taken away from the viewer at will. That will never satisfy a collector.

I could switch to streaming easily if they promised it would be streaming forever had the special features DVD/BDs have etc.
As these seem an impossible dream im staying a home media lover

Discs are cheaper than flash-media. It's one of the often cited reasons why Nintendo Switch games are usually slightly more expensive than their PS4/Xbox counterparts.

Yeah I love owning a physical copy but I find myself with an extensive backlog with some i'll never realistically watch what with the rate of new stuff I want to see too. So i'm attempting to just stream those I probably won't rewatch and own those I would. I've been buying anime movies a lot more than series. Series I've been buying are to finish my collection so I've still been buying Durarara and I will the newest Tokyo Ghoul once it's out as I only have S1 and 2 atm.

Physical media formats come and go, alas. But I think, even if DVD is no longer support with active releases, it's not going to die. At least, not in the same sense that other media become obsolete.

I've got a feeling that we'll still have means to at least watch our DVDs and enjoy things that never got an HD reissue for a long, long time to come.

My biggest regret about DVD being dropped as a format is simply that it'll make importing a tougher proposition for folks who aren't precious about having an HD copy of whatever they're after. Blu Ray region codes really are a pain, and even buying a multi-region player isn't a simple proposition. Several times now, I've looked into it, and given up after ten minutes of frustrating online searches that lead me round in circles.

Exactly. I placed an order for Squid Girl on DVD today from Sentai. Getting it onBD wouldn’t have been an option. US companies ditching DVD is seriously curtailing my importing.
