If you were forced to own only ONE anime series on DVD...

Aion

...what would that series be?

I'm going to make this clear: I want the people who reply to mention ONLY ONE SERIES. No notable mentions, no different categories, just one anime series. I'm pointing this out since people tend to make a list unless you paint a picture.

Mine would be Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo. It has the most unique animation effect I've seen (and I'd bet it is the most unique) and some of the best music my ears have listened to, combined with the classic tale of Monte Cristo. Simple as a story of revenge undoubtedly is, the story shown in Gankutsuou was so touching and awe inspiring it made me read the 1200+ page novel the series is based on, which I finished reading this morning. For an anime series to make me, someone who's far from an avid reader, read a 1200+ page book in under a week it has to be pretty damn good.

Dragonball...and i mean the whole thing...including Z [sorry if this breaks your rules 0___0;;]. I'd love to see R2 getting a decent release of everything Dragonball. No stunts like they pulled with the R1 release~ full screen, with original music and english language. Just a proper release of everything so I can get it all on DVD nice and easily. Then i could watch it all, over and over.

Oh and you mention only series. If i could extend it to one film also. 5 Centimeters Per Second. I normally wait for films to be released on DVD but i made a bloody wise choice downloading 5CM. I can't count the number of times I've seen it~ and I'd still watch it over and over, because in my opinion...it is the best film. Ever. Full Stop.

Wow, you really like Gankutsuou, Aion :3

My answer is probably fairly obvious to anyone that knows me: It's Evangelion. Along with being exceptionally entertaining, with amazing artwork, characters and plot, it's got an insane level of depth. So, really, watching it over and over again (which is probably what owning only one anime series would entail) would be a pleasure! ^__^

Aion talks about Gankutsuou more than I talk about GunBuster or CitizenGeek talks about EVA. >___>

It's a hard choice, but I'd pick GunBuster.

It would be my favourite FMP: The Second Raid, but it's quite short and after about 100 rewatchings would get dull. Monster; it's a long and thoughtful series which I could watch again and again and still find something new in.

Hard decision but I will choose Angelic Layer

I liked Angelic Layer, i was so dissapointed i didn't get all of it in ADV's sale.

Anyway, one show on dvd and thats it? has to be Tenchi. Allways will.

This *awesome* music video will show you why I love Gankutsuou: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=77465

Not only is the anime amazing, the anime opened the door for me to the greatest book I've ever read. I now want to see a 100% faithful anime adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo. :D

I managed to grab 1,3,4,5,6 but i had to scout around for 2+7 but it was worth it because i think i paid £15 for the whole set in the end..

Anyway... if i had to have 1 series? Wow thats hard... It would have to be Hunter x Hunter plus the OVA's if possible..

Do OVA's count?

Well tough I'm picking Macross Plus and you'll have to pry it out of my cold dead hands.

Im a sucker for the music and I love the dub for some reason. For the longest time I thought the lead character was voiced by the same actor who plays Hal in Malcom in the Middle.

I'd have to go with My-HiME.

I can't really give an exact reason like "it has the greatest character development ever" because, well, it doesn't.

I think I just love the twists and turns, I love the contrast between the first and latter halves, I love the revelations throughout, I love the emotional impact. It has a good development, good plot progression, and if you're watching it for the first time I think alot of the things are quite unexpected.

I think it's just a series which, to me, is everything I want my anime to be, and I'd happily watch it over and over again, just so that I could get more into the nuances of the characters.

I'd probably go with Haruhi. Its light hearted and its one of those anime I can just choose to watch any episode without having to start the whole series again or watch it in any specific order (providing you've already seen it and understand it). Though some episodes are more episodic than others (E.g. "The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya").
