No-one is truly 'evil'. They just have psychological problems. Of course, that doesn't justify what they did, but they need help, not to just pass them off as 'evil' and murder them.
Let me ask you a question. If a family member of yours murdered someone, would you want them to die for it? Or would you want them to get help?
The answer is most likely the latter, since you know that they're actually a good person, right?
That's a good way of putting the argument. Most of these people have families who know what they're normally like, you rarely see families of murderers come out and say "he was always a wrong'un."
However, there are definitely some people who are just bad, but while I do thnk some sentences should be stricter, I don't think life is usually justifiable, not least in cases of wrongful imprisonment (i.e. the person was actually innocent, though admittedly those are rare.)
