I've done it while on Knightus during particularly intense arcs of Detective Conan... I just like to see where the story's heading. Other than that, peh~, i guess it's because i've been waiting for the release and, in the intensity, i'm desperate to know what happens. *shrug*

Nope, never! Kind of stupid to be honest, especially if you have no sense of what's going on. And, instead of thinking "otaku" I think more "wapanese" (no offense to anyone

It's a visual medium, so the story being told isn't only in the dialogue. You get clued in to what's happening by music, tone of voice, and facial expressions anyway (unless they're crap actors lol and ofcourse you get the wrong end of the stick regardless ), but there can be a lot going on outside of the "main frame" that often goes without notice otherwise.

Ditto, have also watched a few episodes of Mission E cause i though no one was going to fansub it. Made some sense due to limited japanese and teh fact i'd seen the prequel.chaos said:

I do buy the odd manga in Japanese if I'm really keen on the mangaka's work, can't/will never find it in English, or in support if I'd read the scans, or if it's been sensored and I want to see the original. (I also buy the occasional drama CD that's from a series I really like and has a seiyuu cast that's a pleasure to listen to
Same here. I began to watch Rookies as soon as I could find episodes, despite being RAWS. The whole idea of the drama just got me really excited. I've also done the same for some BL movies. Such as Boys Love and Itsuka no kimi e. Mostly to see if they would be worth watching once a sub was released. Though, BL movies seem to be subbed rather quickly so there is rarely a wait

Well, I'm about to do this for the first time. I wanted to see the new Zeta Gundam films and so have bought the HK versions with no English. At least I know the basic story, and hopefully I'll recognise some Japanese.
I should be able to make out "Kamile, Zeta Gundam: Launching!" by now anyway.
