I'm pretty surprised how defeatist some people are on here. It always helps to stand up for what you believe in and fight, even if you're unlikely to get the result you want in the end. Danime if you wanted to set-up an e-mail template or petitions, you should try. It will make a difference, I'm sure of it.

And it's not a matter of changing the law, rather just appealing against a decision. It all about perception.

Your wasting your time, just because its a "stupid law" doesn't mean its going to be changed by a few irate fans e-mailing saying "Why did you edit it? Its not bad really I swear!", and last time I checked this section of the forum is called "General Anime DISCUSSION".
Wasting your time? Actually we waste more time posting on forums going in circular arguments about censorship every time the BBFC make a cut, but that's just my opinion. :p

I sent a mail to them, sure. I also don't expext the world to change to suit me either. They are a public service, so I'd like to think that they welcome contructive feedback as it gives a reflection of the public opinion.

I agree that some cuts are neccessary, but I think this one's a bit much considering the style of the show. (ie. it's not aimed at children and I don't think it carries much appeal for them either, so there's less reason to assume they be watching it)

Meh, why am I so serious? I don't even care that much!

I'd rather call them a public nusance myself. The days of censorship should be long and gone. I accept video ratings (though 99% of the time i believe they are put too high) but actual censorship was supposedly ended in the 50s.

So much for freedom of speech and expression

Paul to the rescue!

That is such a brilliant idea about the e-mail template or petition, i don't really know how to go about it properly so i'll need some help but i'm up for writing the general thing, i'll need help with finding evidence and facts (from the 1984 act thing and so on), and i'll also need help putting it as formal and full of persuading words and stuff to generally make them take a good look at it, so i'll set up another post where people can post the facts first, then tomorrow i'll write it, then i'll send it to you Paul if you could then help me correct and make it better and help me with how go about getting everyone's name or what not, then we should be ready to go :D

I had almost given up too because i've not had a reply from the BBFC as of yet...

It might be an idea as well, once it's been made to spread it around the other UK forums to get loads more people signing it or however it's going to be done.

[sarcasm]What a suprise! I would have been sure they would have e-mailed back right away about something they have allready made a decision on[/sarcasm]

Been waiting to get me back on my bit of sarcasm earlier i see, good job

First off, I don't think a reversal of the BBFCs opinion is as far-fetched as some people seem to think. There have been several dozen "video nasties" from the 70s and 80s that were banned outright at the time that have since made it onto DVD uncut; BBFC ratings aren't set in stone.

At the same time, I think it's ludicrous to expect the government to change a law that's been in place since 1984 just so you can watch an extra 80 seconds of a cartoon.

By all means email the BBFC to tell them you feel the decision was unfair; by all means ask them to reconsider or have a different member view and rate the film to see if they can release it uncut.

I think a reconsideration is in order for the sake of fairness; given the fact that it's an 18-rated disc the notion of edits based on the suggestion that it might be harmful to children seems more than a little bizarre to me.

I really think you're unlikely to win any landmark victory over the Video Recordings Act of 1984, though - especially since they're looking into expanding that law's scope at the moment.

however i should point out there was a petitions for adult swim in the uk that got 563,000 odd signatures

look where that got.

tbh more chace of pursuading 4kids to release uncut dvds

and i'm not being a defeatist, just a realist
