Synopsis
<em>
The story follows high school girls who drive real life tanks in teams during competitions set up by their military school.</em>

The voice actresses involved include Mai Fuchigami (Mai in Miracle Train), Ai Kayano (Mogana in Medaka Box), and Yuka Iguchi (Tsukiji Araragi in Bakemonogatari).

Tsutomu Mizushima (Another, Squid Girl) is directing this anime while Reiko Yoshida (K-ON!) is writing scripts and Isao Sugimoto (Ben-To) is animation director. Character designs being handled by Humikane Shimada (Sky Girls, and Takeshi Nogami (Strike Witches).

Ryouichi Saitaniya is making a tie-in manga series that will be serialised in Comic Flapper magazine in June.

what's the Japanese obsession with WW2?

Strike Witches, Axis power, FMA. They do remember how WW2 ended for them don't they :D

I have to say, I'm kinda surprised the girls aren't anthropomorphic personifications of tanks.

I think I've worked out what it is that irks me about these cute x militarism shows more than others - They take a setting which should by rights star the kind of characters I like (emotionally and physically strong female characters) but instead populate it with cutesy little girls who look and sound like they couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag, let alone lift an army rucksack without snapping in half.

Not to mention restore a stripped Nazi Panzer in Japan of all places. Can't be many parts they can get off the shelf for that, or even used spares yard. :roll:

Hopefully, if nothing else, Hiroshima and Nagasaki will stand as testament to a "never again" stance... One can only hope.

Not like I want another debate right now, but if Japan had kept fighting a lot more Amercian soldiers could have died. Wrong or right, if you're the president of Amercia and are at war with Japan, you're going to prioritise Amercian lives over Japanese.

Of course, he was the head of a military at war. This is a fairly unique viewpoint from which to analyse the situation, though, and the conclusion that Japan would not have entreated for peace without dropping two nuclear bombs on a largely civilian populace is a subject of, to say the least, much debate and speculation. Prioritizing human life "in general" should carry momentous significance, imo, and you only need to look as far away (ie. right upside) from the atomic bomb as Leo Szilard to find theoretically neutral, intelligent people of the time who opposed its use in this manner.
