Ghost in the Shell

Thats the complete boxset of Series 1 (26 episodes). Series 2 has yet to hit the UK, but I am sure it will next year.

Ghost In The Shell : Stand Alone Complex and Ghost In The Shell : Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG are the two TV series. There are also two films Ghost In The Shell and Ghost In The Shell - Innocence. You don't need to have seen the films to understand the TV series so thats a good place to start.

Ghost In The Shell is set in a futuristic world of the future with the lead character and several others being cyborgs. Series 1 of the TV series follows the missions of crime fighting unit Section 9 as they go on the trail of a famous hacker known as "The Laughing Man".

Personally, I'd recommend getting it. Very good series, and you get the entire thing for £30 (which is dirt cheap by anime standards).

Realistically though, it depends on what you like. It's a relatively serious show (although it has its lighthearted moments as well), not too complex though. Also, you'd probably love this show if you're into sci-fi / cyberpunk, if not then YMMV.

ah thanks for the info! it said offcial log 1, so i was worried it was only half of the first series or something!

The official log isnt what you linked. The log is something seperate to the main series.

well just pre-oredered this now! So is the episode flow differant? By the title, I am guessing it has stand alone one episode stories, and also a sort or series or complex ones? or am I completely off the mark?

Your right, it has single ep stories (stand alone) and eps to do with the Laughing Man case (complex), most of the early eps are stand alone with some complex eps then most of the later eps are all complex.

excellent necro thanks alot! I am just getting into actualy buying anime instead of just downloading it. This site seems a great place to meet like minded people, and this has just proven it! Thanks for all your responses guys!

i picked up the first two Dvds on offer, and the series is generally very good. what ruins the feel is the toy tanks, but generally, i'd say it is good.

I love the Tachikoma's!

They keep the show from getting too serious at times. Plus they've got some nice moves and weaponry when it comes time for action.

Yeah, the tachikomas are very well presented. I wasn't at all impressed with the dub voices of them though, it just killed off their fantastic personalities.

Yeah, especially how Batou's one starts developing its own personality because he keeps using it (and because of *ahem*, other stuff. You'll find out in episode 12).

I love the "Tachikoma Days" shorts at the end of each episode as well.

Tachikoma 1: *throws frisbee*
"Go Fetch!"

Tachikoma 2:
"Bowf!"

*completely misses frisbee*

Tachikoma 1: *holds up sign*
"0 points"

Tachikoma 2:
But this isn't a mouth!

Tachikoma 1: *scribblescribblescribble*

"excuse also gets 0 points"

Anyone know if there are similar shorts after 2nd gig episodes?

Nah, i like humour as much as the next person (i am a massive Excel Saga fan for starters!) but humour in GITS context, especially those horribly squeeky voices and that silly ending cartoon just come off as cheesy to me and ruin the feel
