Ghost in the Shell Manga

I love GitS anime, but have ever read the manga. I did a quick search on it on amazon, and got millions of books available!!

Where do I start as I'd like to read them in sequence (even if not related, would still like to read them in chronological order)

Bought this at the weekend. Noticed it was the more adult version as originally published in Japan...hmmm...interesting lesbian scenes as discussed in this forum before. Not sure what it adds to the plot, and to be honest I'm unsure why the need for such material in an otherwise fantastic piece of manga. My missus also accused me of buying pornograqphoc material too...great!

Still, I'm sure some teenage boys didn't mind it

I had the impression the scenes were more about the major's character and the strange way in which she treated her body - as a shell rather than part of herself. I tended to think of scenes like that as a way of expressing those associations rather than simply being a lesbian scene for the sake of having a lesbian scene.

I try similar arguments when discussing certain scenes in the first movie and I like to believe the nudity has a reason. If I'm led to believe otherwise then it simply detracts from the movie/story. It would feel completely wrong if it turned out that it was all a ploy by Mamoru Oshii / Masamune Shirow to get a larger audience.

Is it realy classed as nudety when it's an Android or Cyborg body on show?! not that it realy matters.

Only ever read the original Ghost in the shell, was looking at MMI in Boarders the other day, but £20 is a bit steep

MMI was not the very good when compared to the original books. Its story was weak, its art very changeable and by god there was too much techno-babble! It felt I should have a set of encyclopedias beside me even with every page being packed with notes about terms. All in all I was disappointed especially since i read it right after I read GITS.
