A promotional video for Genshiken: Second Season was placed on the anime’s website today and it gives viewers a glimpse of the new characters and the seiyuu performing.

Synopsis

On a particular college campus there is a club for otaku and it is called Genshiken: The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture. Over the past few years they have indulged in cosplay, figure collection, video gaming and attending conventions but with some of the previous embers having graduated from college there are a new set of members joining the ranks.

The anime is produced by Production I.G. and directed by Tsutomu Mizushima (Girls und Panzer). Series composition is overseen by Michiko Yokote who was the writer for the previous Genshiken TV anime.

Much as I love the manga, I never did get round to watching the previous Genshiken 2 anime (awkward naming, much?), as I heard such mixed responses to the direction it took, so I'll likely be approaching this with some trepidation.

It would be better if the official stream went with Genshiken: Second Generation or something. It's also more accurate given the plot - I guess people want to match the official English manga title so they're out of luck either way.

I'm also approaching this with trepidation. The manga version isn't as great as what came before it IMO and they've replaced the seiyuu. Especially infuriating as Ishida Akira used to be in it (he was voicing a horrible character, but still!).

Eh, I'm more cut up about the Nobuyuki Hiyama being replaced (He MADE that bit about the Erotic games, made all the more funnier as we were watching Gurren Lagann at the same time so many images of Viral popped up with "You don't just X her, you Z her!!!" stamped, it was hilarious, but only as a theoretical concept, of course *cough*.)
