I noticed there wasn't an exact thread on this section dedicated to any movie or TV news that would be handy in case one of us wanted to mention an upcoming theatrical or home video release so here's one to help fill the void.

I'll provide some examples to start this off:

Arrow Video have recently revealed plans to bring the following to the UK on home video this May 2019:
  • The Annihilators (Charles E. Sellier, Jr., 1985) - 13th May
  • The Grand Duel (Giancarlo Santi, 1972) - 6th May
  • In The Aftermath (Carl Colpaert, 1988) - 6th May
  • Mega Time Squad (Tim Van Dammen, 2018) - 20th May
  • She-Devils on Wheels (Herschell Gordon Lewis, 1968) - 20th May
  • Trapped Alive (Leszek Burzynski, 1988) - 20th May
  • Yakuza Law (Teruo Ishii, 1969) - 13th May
UK distributor MUBI has confirmed that Luca Guadagnino's 2018 reimagining of Suspiria will be available to stream on Amazon Prime sometime this April.

Second Sight revealed a few weeks ago that they will be releasing George A Romero's Dawn of the Dead to the UK on Ultra HD Blu-ray as well as standard Blu-ray and video on demand. The release will include the original, unrated US theatrical release cut, Romero's pre-US release Cannes cut, and also the Dario Argento foreign version. The distributor has also confirmed "scanning, colour grading and restoration of both films will be managed by Final Frame under the supervision of Director of Photography Michael Gornick. The mastering and encoding will be handled by one of the entertainment technology industry’s most experienced specialists, David Mackenzie of Fidelity in Motion". The current estimated release date is late Summer 2019. Romero's Martin was also acquired however it will be released on standard Blu-ray only.

The Ultra HD Blu-ray & Blu-ray combo pack for Avengers: Infinity War is currently being sold for £13.99 on Amazon UK for some bizarre reason, get it while it's cheap!

Arrow Academy have announced plans to bring Nightfall and The Running Man to UK Blu-ray this June.

James Gunn is now back as director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, after being fired back in July 2018 for past Twitter tweets many years ago.

He will still continue to work on Suicide Squad 2. Deadline reports.
 
Avengers: Endgame tickets are now on sale. The midnight launch is available on Wednesday 24th April 2019 followed by nationwide screenings on Thursday 25th April 2019.

Somehow I’m thinking they want to make jet black, well, black, wouldn’t know why so that’s Shakir, Cho is a shoe in for spike Pineda is Faye and I can somehow see Hassel as vicious. Could be wrong here, Hassel could be jet, or these could not be the main cast. Remains to be seen I guess

Edit: damn that tiny text. Cho is spike, no confirming the rest though

Agree but it is just a tease. Will have to see how its all handled. The worst case scenario is that they try backpedalling on Rey's heritage and somehow make the Emperor survive his fall, both of which would be a real hard sell.

I am predicting a Palpatine force ghost (surprised we haven't had a sith ghost yet honestly) and maybe Rey adopts the Skywalker name?

I've been apprehensive ever since they decided to go back to Abrams for IX. VII was fine, but "fine" was as good as it got imo. He played it incredibly safe which obviously pleased audiences who were looking for nostalgia but he didn't really bring anything new to the table - Let's face it, it was just ANH again but with different characters. VIII was much more interesting to me personally, not least because Johnson succeeded in trashing some of Abrams' safe and unoriginal plot elements. I was excited to see where it could go from there, but bringing Abrams back for IX has me thinking he'll just damage control whatever he didn't like or intend from VIII (Kylo has his mask back already, so much for letting the past die) and retreat back into his safety zone.

I haven't yet read all of the supplemental material from the new EU to know if this is still the case, but I was under the impression Sith weren't supposed to be able to do the force ghost thing (they did in the old EU, but iirc Lucas didn't like the idea). But what has definitively been established is Sith possession of people via personal artefacts. That would be kinda interesting. There's also the fact we now have space-time portals as of Rebels, which we also know Palpatine took an interest in. I kinda don't want to be as excited as I am for more Palpatine, there are so many ways they could screw this up but I can't not be excited at the concept of actually competent and threatening villains again.
 
Even the new EU doesn't fully line up together all the time and Its a pretty big ask to have your scriptwriters and directors to research and adhere to a multitude of books, comics and games. This is why Doctor Who and Star Trek play so fast and loose with the Canon of spin-off media. Its easier that way.

Yes, I'm hoping for less 'safe' movies but there's always what Rian Johnson and the Game of Thrones people are working on.

That's what the LSG is supposed to be for. I mean I'm very much in favour of consistency partly because the old EU became such a contradictory mess, not helped by the fact Lucas made no secret of the fact he could and would overrule anything in it and I don't think anyone wants a return to the days of the "canon tiers" system. I'd also be totally in favour of anyone making a SW film knowing everything there is to know about SW, frankly. I mean I don't think much would make me happier than them handing production of all TV and film projects to people like Leland Chee, Pablo Hidalgo and Dave Filoni who really do live and breathe this stuff.

Edit: Speaking of Dave... The Mandalorian and new Clone Wars look great. Probably more hype for these than I am Episode IX. It’s nice to see George at least somewhat involved, and consultant and ideas man is a good role for him - He can still share his vision of the universe he created without the final version being too self-indulgent. The Clone Wars benefitted hugely from this arrangement, so I’m very hopeful for The Mandalorian.
