I haven't seen Gantz but i'm sure the ending has something to do with the overall plot.

It doesn't, it has a completely random and ubruptly pointless ending.

Does it seriously have nothing to do at all with the main plot? Could you understand the last episode without watching the rest of the series first? If the ending is really so random and has nothing to do with the rest of the series then maybe it's just a bad series or a series that's trying to be to psychological for it's own good and failing. That's not filler, that's bad storytelling.

Well it was just basically another one of GONZO's 'crap compared to the manga' series like Hellsing.

To be honest after volume 4 of the Hellsing manga I actually prefered the way the anime series went. The whole nazi storyline got dull really fast for me.
