Game Pre-Orders

Resurrecting the thread to mention my pre-order for Metroid Prime Remastered. Getting the physical edition from ShopTo, who were also the only place left that had any The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Collector’s Editions left (unless I somehow get lucky with the shite server for Nintendo’s UK website).

Well this was a surprise. Play Asia have listed Asian English releases for the Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster collection for Switch & PS4.

Roughly the same price range as before, but at least it's not sold out in seconds (for context Square Enix store held exclusive physical copies for EU & US but they sold out in minutes and had high shipping costs).

Play Asia does support pre-paid VAT and there's a free shipping option if you reach a certain amount.

ShopTo had a glitch tonight that temporarily removed the Collector’s Edition for Tears of the Kingdom from users’ accounts - thankfully, mine is secure as who knows if/when Nintendo’s own store will put their stock up (and if their lacklustre servers can handle the site traffic).

It appears that the Square Enix store will be charging for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster releases at the end of March - I was under the impression that these weren’t releasing until the end of May going by the page listing, though it was a tentative date.

That might just be about which tax year they want to drop people's money into.

Switched my pre-order of DB Sparking! Zero from Amazon to The Game Collection the other week, as TGC were offering £10 reward points for it.

It was shipped today, so there's a chance that it could arrive tomorrow as TGC use RM 24, but we'll see.

My Metaphor ReFantazio pre-order shipped yesterday from the Monster Shop via eBay, so fingers crossed that gets here for release day too.

Sonic x Shadow Generations is out today and despite the payment being taken a few days ago I haven't even had a dispatch e-mail from GAME.

Was really looking forward to playing that today, would had used TheGameCollection like I usually do but thought I might as well use my remaining reward points as GAME have stopped them now.

I contacted them via Twitter and they're looking into it so hopefully I'll get it sooner than later.

GAME are having a lot of issues at the moment- absolutely fudged their pre-order system too which doesn’t help (not showing up on site or in orders.)

Yeah, it isn't showing up on my order page either, wish I never used them.

Don't plan to anymore unless it's an exclusive edition of a game I really want or something.

GAME finally dispatched Sonic x Shadow Generations last night... 2 - 3 days after release.

I never order from GAME and haven't for years. I'd love to support a brick and mortar video game store, but they make it so difficult with their pricing and online service. They also recently stopped their reward point scheme.

I would have imagined that the likes of TGC and ShopTo have practically killed GAME's share of the physical video game market. TGC have never failed me for pre-orders, they have a reward point scheme, regular 5% off promotions, and £10 credit for pre-ordering certain games. They also regularly have 20% off on their eBay store, and FREE delivery! Their standard pricing on their website also tends to be cheaper than the likes of GAME.

I remember being close to ordering a single game from GAME and saw they charged £4.99 for delivery and I was like nah, f*ck that!

They even charge £4.99 for instore collection now (then give you a voucher for £4.99 when you go and pick it up) - ludicrous company!

I've been using TGC for years too - wonderful company!

Madness! Perhaps they should have just scrapped their physical stores and gone down the online root to try and compete with the big players in the online space.

I'm guessing the reason why they generally charge more for physical games is because of the cost of the upkeep and rent that come with brick and mortar stores. If you're online, I suppose you just have one big warehouse and packing facility to look after and a lot less staff.

My local GAME store is still standing (somehow) and has been there since I was a kid. Fond memories of going in there after school most days just to look at the games on the shelves.

Random realisation, I completely missed that LRG already did physical copies for Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered and Penny's Big Breakaway.

I knew Penny was getting one but didn't think it'd happened yet and must've completely missed the news on Shadows of the Damned.

Would've liked both of these titles physically, hopefully I can find them down-the-line sometime for reasonable prices 😅
