Free Manga Talks at the British Museum

Anime News Network have run a story listing a series of free talks connected to the world of manga. These talks are running as an accompaniment to a free manga exhibition called <em>Manga Now: Three Generations</em> which is on at the British Museum and features newly-commissioned work by the artists Tetsuya Chiba (<em>Ashita no Joe</em>), Yukinobu Hoshino (<em>2001 Nights</em>) and Hikaru Nakamura (<em>Saint Young Men, Arakawa Under the Bridge</em>).

The talks run from September into November and are all free. Here are the talks listed by Anime News Network:

<strong>Friday September 18</strong>

1.15 p.m. to 2 p.m. -&nbsp;Start local, go global: manga in world culture&nbsp;- Talk by&nbsp;Helen McCarthy&nbsp;in Room 3.

<strong>Saturday October 10</strong>

2 p.m. to 3 p.m. -&nbsp;Drawing manga: practice and context&nbsp;- Demonstration by Hugo Yoshikawa in Stevenson Lecture Theatre. This event must be booked&nbsp;here.

<strong>Tuesday October 20</strong>

1.15 p.m. to 2 p.m. -&nbsp;Shōjo manga: girls' comics from Japan&nbsp;- Talk by critic Paul Gravett and manga artist&nbsp;Akiko Hatsu&nbsp;in Room 92.

<strong>Thursday November 5</strong>

1.15 p.m. to 2.m. -&nbsp;Manga now, ukiyo-e then&nbsp;- Talk by Tim Clark in Room 3.

<strong>Wednesday November 11</strong>

1.15 p.m. to 2 p.m.&nbsp;Manga now at the British Museum&nbsp;- Talk by Nicole Rousmaniere in Room 3.

<strong>Friday November 13</strong>

1.30 p.m. to 230 p.m. -&nbsp;Big swingers and geezer girls: golf manga in post-war Japan&nbsp;- Talk by Angus Lockyer of SOAS. This event must be booked&nbsp;here&nbsp;in the BP Lecture Theatre.

6 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. 0&nbsp;Otaku Attack&nbsp;- 'An evening of manga-inspired entertainment and digital activities, including performances by shamisen player Hibiki Ichikawa and traditional Japanese enka and minyo songs by Akari Mochizuki.&nbsp;Cosplayers&nbsp;welcome.' This event will take place in Great Court and&nbsp;Samsung&nbsp;Digital Discovery Centre.
