For Criticism, ???? and Profit.

The space hitman's definitely looking sharper now with the redrawn chestplate, I say bring on the mech!

It's interesting watching the evolution of the girl's design too, I gather this is building towards a comic? Or is it just experimentation? Either way your work continues to impress, keep it up!

Yeah, if I ever get my comic project ever becomes more than a vague notion, she's one of the main characters. Although, ironically when I've spent so much time on her, she doesn't actually appear in the first chapter at all.

In the meantime, here's how she's progressing. I was really impressed with the high-contrast look they used for Redline, so I've been experimenting with some areas of spot-black on her body as well as her hair, but I find it difficult to place them effectively. Not so sure about her left arm either, although her hand's not looking too bad.

Otherwise quite happy with how it's going :D

I hear you on Redline; love Takeshi Koike's artstyle :)

Looking good anyway, as you point out her left arm may be a little slender but otherwise it's shaping up nicely. More please!

Still not finished that last picture (her left arm is driving me nuts), so a couple of pages from my sketchbook instead. Why do I persist in drawing things on ruled paper? It is a mystery.

I thought it might be a deliberate thing for helping with scale or something. ^^;

I do like the first woman's "hairdo of hairdos".

The lines do actually kind of help to keep things in check, but I think it's probably more down to me having that diary planner readily to hand a lot of the time.

I'm so tempted to dub the first woman's hair 'beehive porn', but I fear that may have other connotations.

I must admit that I Google image-searched that. The result were surprisingly innocuous, then I realised the moderate search filter was on.

The diary-planner sketchbook may indeed help with proportions, but if you have any good ideas you want to digitise and use you'll end up having to redraw them. Unless you enjoy image editing?

What issues are you having with that left arm, by the way? I've not taken a proper look, but the only thing that struck me was the smaller fingers looking a little flat.

Hair is looking awesome, as ever, I'm just surprised by the change to fuzzier lines once I look past the head. If the hair and face are your focus then that's all good though.

I'd actually been hoping to redraw the diary planner sketches as vector images in Illustrator, but it's proving a tricky business. I'm not very adept with the pen tool so I've been trying to use the blob brush instead, but it seems really hard to keep the lines sharp at the ends.

The problem with the left arm was actually in the previous image though. I think it's probably my own fault for trying to make a composite reference pose from more than one photograph - I can't seem to get her left arm looking like it belongs to the rest of her...

Think I might finally be getting somewhere with this one. A mate of mine is quite into photography and he managed to find me a reference photo that was pretty close to the pose I was working with, so that speeded things up considerably. Unfortunately, I've lost her left hand, but I'm far more comfortable about the anatomy in the picture as a whole.

The high-contrast look might also need to wait until such time as I can buy the DVD of Redline and screencap the merry hell out of it for reference material...

I couldn't quite put my finger on the problem you were talking about before, but with the new one for comparison it definitely looks much better.

Thank you :)

I don't think the problem with the arm / upper body in the previous version is all that glaringly noticeable, it's just one of these things that starts to nag at you when you're staring at a drawing for long enough. I've never been great with anatomy, so I don't want to leave any mistakes if I can avoid it.

Seems you've done some impressive work since I last checked in, the new pose for the girl look's even better and your dalliance with vector art has yielded some interesting results too.

Thank you :)

It's taken a long time, but I think that piece has been a real learning experience and it's certainly forcing me to confront my problems with effective use of colour. At the moment, I'm trying to work out the best way of painting her irises - since I removed the heavy outlines, they look a lot weaker.

Then I'll just say 'well done' The tonal work has developed nicely and it looks like you finally sorted out that arm. Great work all round!

Thank you :) The response to that piece has been overwhelmingly positive, so I'm hoping to get another one painted along similar lines soon. Ideally I'd like to go back for another crack at the comic book first, but I'll need to see how the time goes.

I do actually have something else I'm dying to upload as well, but it's a collaborative effort and I'm waiting on my mate's side of things being ready first...

Looks pretty good, not that I have any idea what you look like but I'll just assume it's a good likeness

Vaguely secret project? Now you do have me intrigued...

I'm assuming the "Vaguely secret project" is regarding the piece your doing with the help of a friend. Be looking forward to it.

Cool Self Portrait btw. You have great self control over shading. I always go crazy with it.
