Film4 to air both dubbed and subbed Studio Ghibli movies

It's nice that Film4 are living up to their ethos of being a true movie channel and airing subtitled content. That's the reason why I'm so enjoying Film4 being free- we finally get to see some great foreign cinema on a regular basis.

All I need now is a better aerial! :(

Seriously though, hats off to FilmFour for making the extra effort with getting hold of both versions of each film. They've managed to pretty much cater for every fan who will be watching...no mean feat, that.

Thats really great, i think i have even more respect for them now, great way to make everyone happy, and to make sure that they don't lose out on any ratings :)

i really hope this means that from the viewing figures they will start to show more Anime! the likes of Akira, Ghost In The Shell etc would be nice!

I'm not sure about Akira, but GiTS aired on ITV 4 a while back.

I love Film4 and want to have its babies. Irrespective of whether you like Ghibli films and whether you prefer subs or dubs, showing animation in its original language, on a well-known, freely available channel and at a time when people will be awake to see it all shows an utterly unprecedented and unparalleled faith in animé as a whole. Showing some less famous and less family-friendly animé movies in the late night slot (in both dubbed and subtitled form) is pretty much guaranteed now, and not even the serialising of serial experiments lain and Haibane-Renmei on Channel 4 is out of the question now.

This is if the Ghibli films get the ratings. Is there any way to find to ratings of the Film4 channel?

yeah after posting i remembered but i mean ITV4 was kind of an obscure channel, if Film Four started showing anime of that calibur regularly it would be huge leap into getting more on tv!

I'm stuck at work tonight so I am taping KiKi's delivery service and am gonna watch it tomorrow when I get up. Caught the beginning before I left and I love the cats humour

Tonight while at work I will not be taping Princess Monoko as I have it on DVD, really wanna see Castle of Callistrato (or however its spelt)

"Cagliostro". And just so you know, Jiji's "humour" never existed in the original. He was just a cute little child-like cat, the exact opposite of his character in the dub. And yet somehow, they can both fit with the same visuals… If ever there was an example of different interpretations of a character in different language dubs, than this is it.

wow, first time i've ever seen Castle in the sky, and have to say it's jumped to my fav anime movie of all time

saying that, didn't know Mark Hamil was in it

It's a very good movie (I just finished watching it on Film4 too). My favourite part is when they first crash land on Laputa and go for a walk in the gardens. Something so great about that scene.
