Favourite Video Game based on an anime?

I'm always a sucker for a video game that adapts something. Whether it's an anime, a film, a book etc. Something being translated from one medium to another always interests me.

What are some of your favourite games based on animes?

In the last 10 years for me it's Dragon Ball FighterZ, Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise and I enjoyed One Piece World Seeker and Odyssey.

Be great to hear what others think.

For me it is probably Made in Abyss - Binary Star Falling into Darkness. The game features two story campaigns, one of them is a sort of recap of the anime story up to their entry into level 3 where you play as Riko. Then there's the main campaign where you play as a custom character that go can all the way through various promotions to level 5 and a white whistle.

It can be punishingly difficult, especially starting out where even the most basic of monsters can kill you quickly and you don't have much carrying capacity. On a first playthrough you are bound to get lost in level 3 for hours trying to find a way to get back to level 2 of the abyss without dying from starvation or any of the various monsters.

The Arc System Works fighting game version of Fist of the North Star is good fun and nails the tone of the series. I have the JP PS2 version; it's a shame it was never released in the west. I got bored of Lost Paradise pretty quickly despite how authentic it felt, since RGG Studio games don't do it for me.

I recall enjoying Naruto: Rise of the Ninja on the Xbox 360, though that was mainly for the exploration side, since the combat was pretty weak.

I would have liked to try the PS2 games of Gunbuster or Godannar, or the Mega-CD game of Urusei Yatsura, but they were never translated.

The sad reality of games based on anime is that most are cheap and shoddy affairs, and few are ever released in the west. I'd love a big budget action RPG based on Sailor Moon, but that will never happen.

What came first, the anime or the game? Depending on the answer I'm saying Bang Dream Girls Band Party. I like a bit of rhythm matching and unpaid Gachas.

Otherwise the answer is too depressing given how long it's been since I've seriously gamed. Because then the answer is U.N Squadron from US Gold on the ZX Spectrum, based on Area 88.

The only one I've played was Last Battle on the Mega Drive and was absolutely woeful! The Western release didn't retain the names from the series it was from and was nerfed in terms gore, apparently.

The Japanese version was called Fist of the North Star: The New Legend of the Post-Apocalyptic Messiah.

I play a couple of gatcha games that got anime in Princess Connect Re: Dive and Uma Musume Pretty Derby.
