DVD Storage

The Boss
Ok, I've got to the point it's getting really ridiculous. After filling up 4 large bookshelves, putting books and DVD's in two rows and actually putting one on top of the other to try and maximize space usage, I've got tired of bookshelves.

All I wanted was one of those DVD's storage files that could actually hold the DVD and it's cover in one slip. Does anyone knows of such thing? All I ever find are those files wich can only hold the DVD, but never the covers. The same would be really appreciated for CD's.

have to agree with you. i know ur pa :D i haven't got to the point where they are on the floor or i need to sell a few but i am getting close! i think i need to get boxsets from mvm noow instead of their stupid outdated single volumes ********!

I've also considered selling out all my singles and getting the boxsets as well, but that would be too expensive, migth be an idea even though I wouldn't like to do that.

I've also considered getting files with ring binders and handcraft my own holders, but it's too much of a pain to do so.

oh like a dvd wallet~? just chuck away the cases and keep the dvds! i might try that. i will from now on sticking to boxsets with mvm through! can't afford the shelf space for their 6 dvds volume things!

I use ring binders, for my DVD, with A4 pockets (with a sheet of paper for stiffen them) for the covers/books. For the DVDs themselves I managed to find somewhere that sells DVD folders that hold 2 DVDs and are punched to go into a ring binder. If you would like me to I can dig out the details of the holders for you.

I use 4 ring ring binders which means that I can fit in twice the number of DVDs. Having the sheet of paper in the pocket also allows you to mark the start of a series with a different colour, which makes it very quick to scan through to find a series.

Might i ask, how big are peoples DVD collections that they are resorting to putting them in folders and throwing away cases?

Why not use to best of both worlds and get a DVD Binder? They seem very cool and handy. Check Amazon.

Or, you could start to box up your less cared about items and put them away for a while.

Genius! I will try to look for these DVD's pockets you mentioned, but I'd be grateful if you have any link to these as well.

I've already filled 2 large bookshelves with my DVD's and another 2 with books. mostly manga.

They look sexy, but they have a huge flaw. You can't keep the covers with the DVDs as well.

See i would be smart and keep the jewel cases and place them in a wheely box that would fit under my bed (providing the bed frame in holly underneath )

but my collection hasn't got that bad, plus i have one long shelf that goes across my room where i place them upon. I think if you stacked my DVDs it would come up to 24.5 inches

Have you thought about thinpacking them all? It would be hell for me but some people do it to save space. Basically you slice about 4mm off each side of the sleeve and put it an a thinpack case, half the width of a standard DVD case, enabling you to fit twice as many discs on a shelf.

It would, however, involve buying a lot of thin cases.

It took me two years to fill them all, but still, many of the box sets will be kept as is, i.e. tins, LE in nice packs, etc.

I don't like the idea of cutting the side of the sleeve, although I don't mind taking them from their original case. The case itself is not important for me, but to keep th covers whole is.

BTW - my estimate is that I have somewhere around 500 titles, so it would mean 500 x 21p + postage = £109.25
when I look at that figure I think I could try and find me a copy of Record of loddoss war and GTO...

How about something like this? You can use one sleeve for the case, which can be displayed on your shelf, and store the others in a folder or something. This is one of the options I'm looking at for series with multiple singles.

These are the ones I am using: http://www.aprmedia.co.uk/product.php?pid=3119

and they are £2.99 for a pack of 100 pockets. plus £3.75 for shipping which seems to be fixed no matter how many you order.

I have currently used around 200 pockets, and that is only my original series of Doctor Who, and my Anime. I still have all my other Science Fiction series plus films to do at some point.[/url]

I no longer have any space. Yesterday, because of my once pure white PS2 cases starting to yellow (I think because of dust, but they are by the window) near my door, I tried to move them to the opposite corner of the room. After making space, I discovered the Telewest thing attached to my wall and my aerial wire were in the way, preventing the units from sitting secure over the skirting board.

Rather than my lack of space bothering me, keeping stuff 'as new' is getting to me. How do I stop pages yellowing because of dust when I'd have to take 400+ books off my shelves to remove it? How do I stop my PS2 cases/covers yellowing when I'm not 100% what's causing it? HOW!?

(I need to sell stuff, seriously. My Gundam Ecole and Saiyuki books are just taking up space, for example. However, selling on feebay isn't tempting, and that's pretty much my only option.

You don't. Time will destroy things, it's best to just accept it. I'm as careful as I can be with my things, but anything made of paper or plastic is going to yellow with age. Unless you want to keep everything in mylar packets... which I always find a little disturbing. I know I'm going to keep my things, I'm not in it to retain / increase their value so I allow them deteriorate (albeit as slowly as possible) in my possesion.
